EXECUTIVE SUMMARY (because Stern gets too hungry reading long posts)
- Genesis' 25th Anniversary is approaching!
- We will celebrate this event in April of 2014
- We want to get all guild recodes finished by then.
- We have a plan and are forming teams to accomplish this.
- Oh, there are other cool things as part of the plan too.
- Read below for full details!
Esteemed fellow Genesis Enthusiasts,
In April of 1989, following a few arcane tappings on a strange and
all-powerful gizmo in the hallowed halls of Chalmers Tekniska Hogskola,
the donut we know as Genesis was given life by its creator and founder,
Lars Pensjo. From this fateful event, a thousand songs have been sung of
the exploits of those of us who have walked the surface of the torroid
over the years.
And why do I point this out, my friends? Because this means something ...
something big! In April of 2014, just slightly more than a year from today,
Genesis will celebrate its 25th Anniversary!
As so often happens when some banner-day is seen on the horizon, one becomes
inspired to do something about it ... to ... to ... to throw a huge party,
invite everyone, and get the place fit for the occasion!! Fit for the
occasion, you say, Gorboth? Just what might that mean? What is this
party of which you speak?
Yes, my friends, yes!
You see ... as we wizards saw this date approaching and realized what it
actually was, and what it actually meant, something happened. A type
of vision was revealed to us and a type of deadline. Not the bad type
of deadline, mind, where one thinks: "Oh, if I don't get this done by
the end of the month, I'll be fired!" No no ... those type of deadlines
don't help. Rather, this was the type of deadline where one thinks:
"Okay, Christmas is coming ... everyone's coming over and we want the
tree and all the presents to be SPLENDID. Lets get to work!" It is that
sort of deadline that we are feeling. And guess what ... we've come together
in a way that I have not seen in years! What is more, we are taking
this vision, getting serious, and getting specific.
It is that vision and those specifics that I would like to now share
with you all.

April 14th, 2014 (14/4/14) - A Celebration of 25 Years of Genesis!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On this day, Genesis will unveil a new "version" of the donut that
includes:
- The completed recodes of *all* occupational and layman guilds
- A highly customized and pre-configured game client that features
protocols standard with industry Mud Client norms, giving the
player a premium experience for free as a download from our
website.
- A new battleground arena for PvP where players can compete for
territory and benefits, including many new pvp tools and realities.
- An event concurrent with the launch meant to celebrate the quarter
century of the donut, giving large numbers of players fun things
to do together. The goal will be to locate, contact, and invite all
persons who, over the years, have established a Genesis character
(that people remember) to be there on this wonderful weekend of
celebration and community - a true Genesis All-Call!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This sounds too good to be true? Read On!

The wizards are excited for this, and we are moving on it. In the last few
weeks we have been getting ourselves organized, creating structures and
timelines that will help us accomplish these tasks, and taking the work in
hand to begin pushing toward a realistic framework for completion.
Already we are seeing the first signs of the hard work and collaborative
efforts coming to light. As many of you have read on the forums, the long-
discussed and much-anticipated recode of the Morgul Mage guild has entered
its alpha phase of actual testing. Additionally, a protocal standard known
as GMCP has been incorporated into the mudlib and gamedriver in testing,
and will soon be implemented in the game. An early version of our new
client is well into production, making use of the protocols to do things
like display player and enemy health in persistent windows that change as
the statistics do in real-time. These things are just the beginning of
what such a client can and will do.
The Admin has been putting together a team of coders, each of whom will
take responsibility for a short list of guilds that yet need recoding. As
the year draws on, this process will strive to achieve the recodes
according to a pre-set timeline that outlines goals that are meant to be
realistic given the amount of code-work and wizard personnel involved. And
speaking of that timeline - here it is!

These are excellent things to look forward to, Denizens of the Donut! We hope
that as this year of preparation plays out, everyone becomes as energized as
we are, and does their part to help prepare for the event. Specifically, we
will be looking for help and volunteer organizers in the All Call that will
take place beginning in 2014. It is not too early to begin seeing what can
be done to make lists of those we will want to track down, and then even to
start some preliminary searches to see who we can find.
I will give my own testimony as example - this last week I contacted the one
person who I have at the top of my list as a hopeful attendee of our event
on April 14th, 2014. I have spoken to Lars himself! He is very happy to hear
that Genesis lives on, and I am going to do whatever I can to make sure he
feels encouraged to attend our gathering ... a gathering 25 years in the
making ... a gathering that we owe to a single man. To him.
So here's to a year of looking foward and a quarter century of looking back!
Onwards, upwards, preparation, and celebration!
G.
