We Need a Newbie Help Section

Need help with quests? Maybe just some advice on which guilds to choose? This is the forum for you. Note that you must be a validated player to view this forum. (Note: Quest help should come in the form of helpful suggestions/hints, but not direct solutions/walkthrough info.)
Forum rules
- Use common sense and be respectful towards each other at all times, even when disagreeing.
- Do not reveal sensitive game information. Guild secrets, player seconds are examples of things not allowed.

We Need a Newbie Help Section

Post by Kitriana » 29 Jan 2015 16:56

Was just thinking...

if a Newbie comes here.. this forum is VERY overwhelming.
Can we create a section for true newbies where they can go to and get some important help nuggets.
Plus.. a place where they can post questions relevant to the Newbie Area or just starting out?

We could move some of the topics like..

Advanced Newbie Guide
Good Starting Aliases
Random Pieces of Wisdom

What do you think Wizzies?

We could even add a lot of the questions that people raise in game on the ntell line into that section as a Frequently asked questions topic with the answers.

And then can point people to the page as a helpful guide.

Good ideas!

I wonder though, perhaps a sticky note here with frequently asked questions for newbies would be enough? Do we need a whole new section? What would be in that new section? More detailed thoughts on how it would look? I am not against creating a new section, just not sure exactly how the layout should be.

Edit: I made your FAQ thread sticky to begin with at least.

The forum is very overwhelming to someone new.
There are a million posts there..

My reason for having a Newbie Section is that it gives them a place to start.
A Place to find the basic info and ask questions.. not just a bunch of discussions
from veterans who perhaps throw out a lot of ideas after long term playing.
Or who want to gripe and complain about some unfairness they see in the game.
It narrows things down for them in a wall of already overwhelming text.
And it helps them from needing to have to sift through posts that aren't relevant to
them yet.

Create One Section : For Newbies and Newbie Helpers

-in that section we can post the following types of posts

1) FAQ
2) Questions they have
3) Helpful hints we can give them
4) General useful information we advice them of
5) Comments and Suggestions -- I know they could put this in the general comments and suggestions area .. but again.. this is about narrowing down so they don't have to go through the entire forum
6)) Links - There is an amazing resource with the wiki page ..
7) We can have surveys in that section

You can start to Sticky a lot of these .. but I think your sticky's are just going to get very long listed.. no?

The newbies should be given such a scroll aswell, with some basic knowledge, cadets location (boat etc) good ways to get money (we should really make some easy way for newbies to make a gold or two)

Kill locations, mebbe what weapons might kill them if they attempt to wield... remember trying a BSA for the first time as an apprentice back in -00 when I was new... not the brightest of ideas :P

Kitriana: Ok that does make sense.

But first though we need to make newbies come here. Gonna try to make registering easier somehow I think... because they're obviously not here...:)

we can always put a big help book in sparkle library, maybe a newbie board in library or tower of realms where people can post
Questions. good questions/answers can be added to help book.(you can replace the mature discussion board which is pritty dead since forum got very popular)

! There is mail for you in Sparkle post office. !
! (North end of the road just inside the village gate.) !

They may be a bit misleading for new players in Newbies Land.
Could it be changed to:
There is mail for you in Greenhollow village's post office.
(North then north-east and east from Hilltop)
?

I'm a newbie and I find this confusing :(

The tutorial is helpful if you read ALL the stuff and memorize a lot of commands.
Suggestion: add more commands to the website guide page, and explain more about the skills system, because I have no idea how to swim.
