Change to spellcasting and shieldwearing

Post by Arman » 04 Sep 2017 15:15

Code: Select all

Hi all,

After next armageddon there will be a change to shield wearers that will impact
spellcasting success.

Wearers of a single shield will be largely unaffected, although there may be
noticed a slight increase in spell failure if wearing a big tower shield.

Wearers of two shields will be significantly impacted by these changes, with
spell failure greatly increasing. The precise somatic requirements of
spellcasting are just too difficult to do with shields in both hands.

Cheers,
A.K

I'd lie if I said this didnt get me laughing...

Will this be re-checking wether or not someone wears a shield just after cast? Or is it untill the spell itself hits? Otherwise its kinda easy to trigger.

Alltho, shouldnt heavy ass platemails and stuffs give limitations aswell? Energies messing with the metal and stuffs? ;)

Now a question for you Arman.
Since at-will spells don't have components.
Will they be affected too?
Tbh should be easier to cast them even when wearing shields as they demand no component handling.

Questions number 2

Will it be possible to detect how much a shield affects casting? Some appraise or such.

Good change.

And I second Draugor - limitations should be expanded on platemails and all that 'fighters' crap.

Maybe a good chance to make wearing/removing/(un)wielding stuff have an actual duration or at least cooldown or at least unavailable in battle? Something should be done for the change to affect anyone with trigger making "skills". Fair change btw but how about monks playing their instruments? Unfair :(

Edit: I know people who actually sleep clad in armour because they forget to take off their second skin. WE ARE INNOCENT!

I'm trying to be positive with the fact that balance changes are happening, personally it didn't seem like a game breaking feature compared to some of the more... glaring issues such as racial balance. But a change is a change, keep my fingers crossed for more to come. Good job!

AK,

I think this is a good change for the most part, and I have vastly more experience than most on this topic. What about limiting these changes to offensive spellcasting only? What are your thoughts on that?
