Imbuements Rendered Unstable!

Code: Select all

Hello all,

When I walked into the Enchanter's Shop in Sparkle the other day, Karkadelt
practically leapt out of his chair. You would have thought he'd never seen
a wraith in a rain-jacket before! It turns out, he had been losing his mind
recently, waiting for me to pay him a visit (something I normally do a few
times a week ... but the Christmas season has kept me away!) He shoved a
parchment at me, handed me my usual fee (which we will not discuss) and
begged me to post it as quickly as possible.

So, without further delay, here is what Karkadelt has been hoping to post
for everyone to see since before the New Year:

============================[from: Karkadelt]============================

Fellow citizens,

I, Karkadelt, continue to feel grateful for the many who visit me
each day to assist me with the problems of trapped spirit energy in
the unusual imbued items that plague the land. We have done good
work together!

For the first time since we began this work, a shift has taken
place in the imbuements I have been studying. The imbuement which
creates an unbreakable weapon or armour has become warped for some
reason, making it unstable and unsafe to attempt. I do not believe
we will be seeing these imbuements form naturally any longer, though
a few will likely persist from time to time.

Because of this, I feel that many of you will find that any of the
ironstones you have collected or crafted have been rendered of no
value. I assure you this is not the case! I must study what has
happened here, and I value these stones very highly indeed. In fact,
I ask you to please bring me any ironstones you happen to have, or
happen to find. I will <trade> you for them, giving you any stone
you desire in a one-to-one exchange. Thus, if you have a glittering
ironstone, I will trade for a glittering stone of any other type,
and on down the line of quality for any other ironstone.

I hope to see you soon.

Sincerely,
Karkadelt

Then we just need something to be done about the otherwise unbreakable weapons...

Dang, Thalric. I mean, yes, but sheesh! This is a great step in the right direction, Gorboth. Thank you.

What will happen to those already imbued with ironstones? Are we able to extract the stones from the item, keeping the item intact? Or do we have to transmogrify it to retrieve the stone and then exchange it?

Just do nothing and enjoy your unbreakable item? :-)

Eventually we will be implementing some form of item-duration mechanic, or removing unbreakable objects from the game, but that will come after a little bit more deliberation. What now happens is that:
  • The lapidarium prevents <convert> if ironstones are selected either for exchange or acquisition.
  • The imbuement forge prevents <fit> from allowing ironstones.
  • The enchanter exchanges ironstones for any other stone you want, so you don't lose any investment.
  • Ironstone generation has been disabled in new random rolls and spawns (hopefully.)
  • You can still transmogrify unbreakable imbues for ironstones if you can find any.
There are likely to be legacy ironstones for quite a long time (potentially forever) if people choose not to convert them. However, they are now useless on their own. There are going to be legacy unbreakable imbuements on items for the current Armageddon cycle, and then for as long as people keep their existing ironstone-imbued items. Eventually, those too will be removed when we implement some mechanic to break them.

We are not going to do this immediately to ensure that people who have recently used their ironstones on items can enjoy those benefits for a while. I'll go ahead and say we will not implement any breaking mechanic on those for at least 10 days from this posting, to be fair.

Cool, certainly can do. I'm glad you're making these changes, it's definitely for the best.
