How should I get the Rangers of the westlands to trust me?

Its not too much work to make a second and grow fast. I would advice graduate from cadets (less guildxp), dont focus at first on craftguilds, and focus on good quests, keep your brutal low and only hunt in teams. Keep your char low profiled as a ranger should and focus on the lore. :)
