A few tweaks more: a) return to the old titles; and b) cap experience to (say) the current hero level. Titles would be capped to the old champion, but you could continue growing until you hit the maximum experience. Then raise the level one new mortal level per year to give everyone a chance of reaching it there.

Statcap idea again? Anyway, I'm all for it. And hero is such a wonderful level, you can do a lot of things yourself (like soloing legend+ NPCs with good gear) while still requiring a team to accomplish some of the more demanding tasks. You get progress at a reasonable rate and death doesn't hurt as much. Perfect level for everything
