.~{- Just a Game -}~.

Code: Select all

I'm going to be speaking out of character in this missive. Since my return to
Genesis (thank you wizards for your help in that effort) I have heard (or
overheard) in my travels in Genesis an expression that gives me pause. It goes
something like "It's only a game ". When I hear that I want to hug you, and
punch you in the face -- at the same time. You are absolutely right. It's a
game that is based on code which is presented in text format. All true.

But if that's all you ever see Genesis as, then I believe you have missed the
reason it was created entirely. You missed the reason so many Immortals spend
months, years, and some decades in the maintenance and creation of this world
-- which we get to share. You somehow missed the wonderful friendships that can
grow -- if you take the time to develop them.

To paraphrase a line from a movie -- Being Caestus makes me a better father,
and being a father makes me a better Caestus. There are times in the Void where
maybe I wouldn't have confidence, or some other lacking -- but then I remember
a conversation in Genesis, some words spoken to me, or my character as Caestus
-- and I suddenly know exactly what to do.

Looking through the other lense perhaps it is my many years studying eastern
philosophy, meditation and years of martial arts that help me to become
Caestus. When I wake up in the Monastery something magical happens. I can't
explain it -- but it's wonderful.

There are some items I have which were given to me by very old friends, some of
whom are now asleep or have gone beyond where I cannot follow. They will always
be special. Their names are Remembered, and will always be with me here, and in
the Void. Maybe that is also one of the reasons for Genesis -- to bridge that
gap to what we call fantasy. Our very own Bifrost to the realms of possibility,
wonder, and magic. Perhaps Mr. Lee explained it best as "It's like a finger
pointing a way to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger -- or you will miss
all that heavenly glory."

A game? If that is all it ever was, then it would not be thriving for more than
thirty years. Longer than some of the new residents have been alive. And I have
a strong suspicion it will keep thriving for many more years to come.

Thank you to all who have ever helped or worked in creating this wonderful
realm and to the many good friends for helping me find my Way, here and in the
Void.
