Code: Select all

I'd like to correct a few misconceptions in Creed's note.

1) Many fantasy RPG games have spellcasters wielding staves, which are
intricate movements for those, but I do not recall Gandalf having to
do that himself when invoking its power.

2) The reference to a huge two-handed appears to be the flaming black
broadsword, as I cannot recall any other two handed sword enhancers.
This is the Nazgul's weapon, and was chosen for the thematics of it
being in a caster's hands. Likewise all non-wand enhancers were
selected based on their thematics, to the chagrin of those who prefer
weapons like the serrated obsidian halberd. These were not done
without that aspect.

3) Fighter/caster do have a drawback. The melee weapon enhancers are
generally weaker than the wands/orbs/eyes, which reduces their potency.
This includes the flaming black broadsword, which is weaker than a
number of held enhancers. As not many see the weapon to test it, there
is an assumption that its spell potency matches its melee potency, but
it does not.

4) On top of their bonuses for (lower defensive skills, expectation of
staying sober), Casters explicitly get bonus multipliers on their spells
based on the herbing requirements. For repeated spells with one herb,
the bonus is highest, with a lesser amount for ones where you get
many casts per single herb. This is to account for your time
herbing.

5) Casters used to bypass armour, and the vast majority of NPCS in the
game never had resistances set. This typically meant casters did 2-4x
the damage of everyone else. NPCs like the Tharkadan Barbarians would
take 4x the time by melee players vs casters, for example, and then they
have a bonus experience multiplier because of their high armour against
melee foes. While we want to ensure casters get compensated for every
drawback they have, a 4x damage multiplier simply cannot be justified
for the 10-20% self-described time lost to herbing.

6) Occupational spellcasters have higher CAID levels in their heal and
damage spells than layman casters can get, by a signifiant margin. So
even with equal spell enhancer, there is still a significant difference
here. Your occupational heal is better than a Warlock's or Vampire's,
measured on a heal/second rate, all else being equal.

I hope this helps clarify some misunderstandings about how things work,
and shows that we have tried to ensure you are compensated for all your
drawbacks versus melee characters.
