New admin position: The Arch of Code

Post by Cherek » 20 Aug 2023 21:12

Code: Select all

Greetings,

Good news everyone, we have a new admin member! Tapakah!

He will serve as the Arch of Code.

The what?

Well, this was a position we apparently had once, and I've decided to
bring it back (and update it a little). Here is the job description
for this new/old position:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

The Code Arch

The position of AoC is what used to be called 'helper Arch'. The AoC,
and the AoC team's task is mainly to aid wizards with coding problems.
The AoC team should not only answer questions asked on the wiz and
codehelp lines, but they should also take a more active approach by
reaching out to wizards, especially new wizards, asking if they have
any coding questions or need any coding assistance with their projects.

The AoC team should also closely monitor all bug logs and attempt to
fix as many bugs as possible. For liegeless domains, the AoC team is
responsible for dealing with bugs directly, and for domains with lieges
the AoC team will work with the liege, offering to assist the liege

----------------------------------------------------------------------

So, in short, Tapakah is our new Mercade :) That is, the goto-person
for all coding questions wizards may have.

Oh, and he'll fix all our bugs too. But no pressure Tapakah.

Jokes aside, I think this will be very good for the wizard community.
One of the main problems with being a wizard is that we all have so
very different programming ability/experience, and there are so many
ways to get stuck when coding. While everyone will try to help if they
can, having as specific goto-person that you always can ask, and that
most likely will be able to help, will be very good. Also, they HAVE
to help, since it's in their job descrption :)

Finally, having one person with a global bug-monitoring responsibility
will also be very good for the game I think.

Please note that for you players this will not change anything. If
you encounter bugs you should still <bug> them, and for critical stuff
also <mail aop>. The AoP team is always the team you players should
contact. The AoP team will then send things over to the AoC if/when
needed.
