Considering it was a flame, I'd say that the move to the Flame forum is pretty self explanatory. Stay on topic.

May as well lower the xp loss when being playerkilled.
Now I hope I don't have anyone hunting me nor do I wish to be
hunted. Once upon a time I enjoyed the thrill of pvp but now
I'm just an old dull person who only wish to get that next batch
of skulls tossed to the masters.

Re: Professional Warriors and Mercy
I think baddies using the mercy would kinda ruin the badass reputation and I would be quite disappointed if say the morgul mage left me knocked out instead of killed me. But so what if some dont use it? the idea is still useful if goodies, neutrals, and not-so-bad-ass evils use it?
Re: Professional Warriors and Mercy
Turn the idea around: if you have mercy on, others can't kill you, but you cannot kill either. If you have it off, others can kill you, but also, you can kill others. Mercy can only be modified within the first five minutes of your session. Let's see how many play by the rules and how many abuse it, punish those that abuse it, and be done with it.

and then you have two people in team - one with mercy on, the other with mercy off.... you dont know which one to target, but they still can kill you just fine.Rhynox wrote:Turn the idea around: if you have mercy on, others can't kill you, but you cannot kill either. I’m not a complete idiot. Some pieces are missing.
Re: Professional Warriors and Mercy
I still think a lower penalty for pkill is by far the best way to go. Lose a fantastic prog, your gear and feel a bit humiliated. Sounds about enough for me.
PVP Death isnt keeping player sizes down anyway so that whole thing is something we can forget anyway. Player's huge size is another discussion and another problem.
Mercy on/off switch for everyone still sounds like a good idea imho though. For those who wanna knock someone out instead of killing. Besides from that I think PVP should be free for all just like it is.
The other suggestions sounds pretty confusing and complicated if you ask me.

Losing a fantastic is too little, it should still hurt with death.
It would just mean people would act like jackasses, knowing it takes them a good hour to recover a death.
I dont think its a good idea at all.
As for mercy on/off, alot of the ideas mentioned sounds good, but opens up for great abuse.
I think it should be up to yourself to pick if you wish to be merciful or not, this entire flaging for PvP
or not is just too complicated and opens up for waaay too much abuse.
Re: Professional Warriors and Mercy
I doubt people would be jackasses just because they can recover in an hour. But I agree that a pkill should hurt more than one fantastic. However, if you don't want to participate, why are you forced into it? The PK flag would solve all this. Let the big ones fight each other and kill themselves as many times as they want, while the rest of the population plays the mud in their own way. It has been the standard solution for MUDs since these PK was implemented, and has worked in all of them. If someone doesn't have the flag but behaves incorrectly (thievery, guild attacks, etc), wizards can force the flag on them (in a way the character cannot remove it himself).
I never understood why we need to reinvent the wheel when it should have been the right of the player to choose since the very beginning.

Re: Professional Warriors and Mercy
Rhynox: So we need wizards to decide what is acceptable behavior and act police. Havent we been there? I dont think we have wizards who WANT that job anymore, and we dont even have enough wizards to do it even if some would be willing. Besides, where do you draw the line? What is okay, what is not? Spitting on a mage? Is that enough to get flagged for pvp? Accidently assisting on some protected guild NPCs? Who's gonna set those rules? I think it will mean alot of trouble, and people with wiz friends can do anything, others cant, corruptions rumours, etc, etc... No no... lets not go there. Lets not have wizards be judges in every case... because there will be ALOT of cases.
l always thought the free world of Genesis where anyone can kill anyone is much better than those other games just because it is free, and dangerous, and because our entire guild and RP system is pretty much based on that anyone can be killed. Remove that and you gotta change alot of things. For instance, all guild wars and politics will have to be removed since we cant have half the guild flagged for pvp and the other half not? or can we? Its gonna be a mess in many ways I think. I loudly scream NO to pvp flagging...
