Re: Attracting wizards/players from other MUDs or elsewhere
Well, your Keeper certainly doesn't. Because we are mostly grown-ups with jobs, families, and other RL concerns these days, we don't have the option to behave as we did when we were in college, spending up to or beyond 10 hours a day playing and coding for the game. No, these days a wizard must choose - either you spend time creating and coding the game, or you spend time playing the game. It is very difficult to do both unless you are unemployed, rich enough to not need to work, or a student who likes to procrastinate on their homework!Draugor wrote:TBH many in the admin dont know genesis as players anymorebendis wrote:

So ... to keep in touch I make sure I talk to and listen to those people who do play the game as often as I can. A great example of this is recently when someone told me how to find something by giving me directions from Mithas. My response: What is Mithas?
Ha. Discraceful! But ... it doesn't mean I don't care and don't work hard. It just means my time is spent on development rather than mastering the lore and the content like a player might.
Aristos, I'd love to chat with you about wizardhood once you feel you've gotten your fill of the game itself, and there is NO hurry. Play and have fun!

Re: Attracting wizards/players from other MUDs or elsewhere
I think I said it once before Gorboth.
And ill say it again.
All of the admin should maybe take like 1 day a month or so and play the game as mortals.
To get a feel for the game as WE know the game.
Befriend a Morgul Mage, SU or a Ranger.. team up and have some fun that way.
Learn what they are capable of, and what is beyond them.
You might know all the numbers and formulas of how the game works.
However that does not mean you know how different things affect the game itself or how the different guilds preform in every day play.

Re: Attracting wizards/players from other MUDs or elsewhere
Actually, no, 1 day a month wouldn't amount to anything. You can't get the perspective of a player by doing anything that infrequently. You need to do one or the other, Amberlee, if you want to understand anything about the experience.
Unless, as I said, you have tons and tons of time.

Aye, but talking to players etc gives you THEIRE perspective and that will always be angled in one way or another, talk to three people about the same thing and you're bound to get three answers. I understand that you dont have that much time, so create some alt and just play for a few hours a couple of days a week and actually really try the shit out thats been created so you can get in touch with the game again, making stuff for something you no longer dont know anything about sounds kinda F***** up
Re: Attracting wizards/players from other MUDs or elsewhere
Actually its a bit like theorycrafting for a game you no longer are in touch with.
