The main problem is noone has the time to do the math required to change the system.

If you want to help out you know what to do. :)
Thats your signal Kas! If you grovel some for Gorboth maybe he'll make an exception to that council/wiz rule. If that rule is still in place? Or maybe you can just step down a little bit, fix this, and step back up? :)

I'd happily help out with theme and story if thats needed. But I suck at match...

That easy, huh? I doubt it.

I will consider it, but keep in mind, it's not entirely my choice to make as my hands are for among some reasons you mentioned, chained.

How much time will it take for person who is not experienced with LPC to get it done?
3-4 months of work?

Alright Cherek, after some speculations regarding the brute-issue, I will make an inquiry to Gorboth and explore if there are possibilities for such a solution. Else, secondary or tertiary options/alternatives should be explored if the changes are wanted.

Others here could step up?

Kas: Great. Do that!

If the admin approves of the idea and you taking an active part I'd be willing to help out with story/theme, testing, simple coding things perhaps. I dont know. If needed. Sometimes its best one person does everything though, all depends on that person. :)

As for stepping up to do the whole project I am simply not a good enough coder I fear. I wouldnt know where to begin.

First.. Theme.. Shelf that immediately.
Consider playability, usefulness and balance first.
And then as everything is done, you make the theme fit the abilities..Not the other way around.

I think those things go hand in hand. If a game like this is technically perfect but has no feel, no story and no believable theme then its just as bad as the other way around. Thats my thought on games like this anyway, but not everyone feels the same way of course, as with everything.

Well Cherek you are not wrong.. But you are far from right..
But the genesis way of doing things has been Theme first and the rest on a distant fifth.
And THAT is more harmful then not having a theme for it at all..
People want something that actually works and truthfully, i dont think any of the "powerplayers" in genesis now could care one single damn about theme.
I would actually go so far as to say that you could make a weapon called "The Spiked Dildo of Forced intrusion" and if it was the best weapon out there, then 80% of the donut would want it.

Anyways as for the practical coding stuff.
If things go well and stuff starts getting worked on.
Its a marvellous opertunity for you to learn how to better code.
Best way to learn is to help someone who knows the stuff with something.

Amberlee: We're getting off topic here a bit maybe. I agree that functionality should be worked out before story, and then the story wrapped around it. But I see no reason why that would be hard to do. You can come up with a story that fits the system, when it comes to story anything possible really. I'll disagree with you when you say its less important though. That would be lowering the bar alot. Maybe you are right that some current players dont care, but I do and I can only voice my own opinion, not anyone else's.

As for me and coding... well no. The code behind this is nothing I should touch. Trust me.:) Besides, what I am interested in is promotion of the game and related stuff, thats where I'd like to spend whatever time and energy I have. Even though my vote in the other topic clearly shows a majority doesnt think its a game worth promoting, I still do. This possible change is however pretty related to promotion of the game I'd say... which is mainly why I like it in the first place. If it gets more players to play the game, I am definitely for it. (well... within reason:) ).
