Which inn serves the egg on my face?
Cel, it would seem that I sacrificed far too much clarity in favor of brevity, as I was thinking much the same things.
On the point where our visions differ, I would argue that while allowing selection from indiscriminate "team wanted" posters would be quicker and easier to code, the format may be limiting to the purpose, as I have trouble envisioning everyone being willing to have just anyone read about their desire to "retake the war plains", "raid the donation chest", "depopulate Bree" or what have you. The fluff of having a bartender size you up for suitability is all about allowing more candid descriptions of intentions.
From there, while you're right that there are any number of ways to initiate contact with the person advertising, I think it would be worth offering a highly capable messenger integral to the system, first and foremost as it can be a double dip money sink (both sides pay) and second to speed the process with some sort of introductory script, "so-and-so of such-and-such guilds is interested in your plan to herb all of Ithilien. Do you accept?" "Suggest a rendezvous point." The airing of your new teammates credentials, linage and references can then happen once the bloodshed is underway.

The preceding collection of words was presented by Strider's Player.
Any meaning you ascribe to them is most likely due to lucky happenstance or your misinterpretation.
If you'd prefer Strider's opinion, you'll probably have to ask for it in game.
