And as for "reserved for the knights", My opinion was that the blocking should
be theirs rather than a common thing. Least mercy has something rooted in the
"options" and this has been in the help files for years.

NAME
mercy
SYNOPSIS
This is not a command, simply information.
DESCRIPTION
With the command "options merciful on/off" a player can decide whether
or not to be merciful when the battle is won. Being merciful means
that the fight ends just before the death of the unlucky victim.
As a consequence, the victim will not lose his or her life, but you
may still claim the loot. Being merciful does not give the full
experience that killing would have given. Though it may be beneficial
to your alignment as well as other things.

Sounds like an excellent idea.
I wonder why it was never implemented. For a time you could switch it on and off in options I think, or atleast see it, but it didnt actually do anything.

In my opinion, mercy should be a global ability that only works on players, not NPCs.

I kinda like Emma's idea about you can get so many pkills per year.. and then maybe anyone you "kill" after that becomes just a knock unconscious. This would of course only work players -- not NPCs.
Though I do recall someone saying.. that someone looting their corpse of all their herbs and spell components would be a MAJOR loss to them-- almost even worse than the death.

Strange.. The command works, in as much as you can turn it on and off.. And the help exists...
But it isn't in the "options" display, and it doesn't seem to have any effect.
So, was it never implemented? If not, why are there some parts of it there?
Or was it working once but removed?
If so, why? And could we have it back?

I missed to put a paragraf in. Fixed it now.

The command exists, and was given to knights first. But some knights (apparently) used it to fight good NPCs and not kill them, so they could loot without losing prestige (just like rangers would disarm NPCs from their weapons quite back in time).
The problem? Beregond would have it activated. I would have it activated. Chade would have it activated. Freya, Tarax and the baddies, not.

Lets not lose sight of Nellnight's point, which was to ask for a punishment option that fits the crime.
Ana wouldnt kill a kender for being overly curious, or some annoying newbie pestering her for an autograph, but it would be nice to teach them to have a bit of manners beyond just glowering and walking away. As a PoT it would have been fun to beat a cleric within an inch of their lift and then stop once they begged for mercy in an appropriately groveling manner. Stop fighting just doesn't have the same flair.
So yes, restrict it to PvP only but it sounds fun.

True true. Bofur would not activate it. Bofur is 1000kg monster. He knows no mercy. But he does tell ppl smaller than hero to grow some muscle/fat so he can eat them, less than that is just skin and bone, not worth eating.

Apparently the moderators move topics without telling people why.
