shallow wound.

Now that just makes me want to cry, down to RH that fast? -.- Seriously, SCOP should be undead hunters, not an evil hunting "neutral guild", such immense bullshit

Nice effort Alorrana, brave to give it a try, cool you survived.

We know the spammy judgement spell is awesome.
But then again so are some of the other mages spammy spells.
Flames from a nazgul etc.

Mages are more powerful than fighters. Fact.
This is not a balance you would see in something like Lord of the Rings Online etc etc.
But it is just something we all accept in Genesis.

To even have a hope you have to get really creative with equipment etc and cancel out their abilities.
But without having code its hard to know
A) if their spells check for resistance
B) What would provide that resistance
Another thing its easy to see on the more balance friendly games.

You have a defensive special but it didn't do much for you.
One cover in the whole fight, a standard attack.
Again it is probably a matter of one guilds code not working with the other.
You should be covering his roaring hammer a lot more and the odd gaze too.
A problem on the other hand is the Neidar reducing every type of damage incomming, where their special even seemed to block an Orge earthquake once I recall.

What really disappoints me about this is the following.

Code: Select all

The celestial shadowy male presence staggers. His eyes roll white. Blinded !!
You prepare to smash the celestial shadowy male presence.
> health all
You are physically in a very bad shape and mentally slightly degraded.
The celestial shadowy male presence is hurt.
> You feel ready to gore your foes again!
gore
drink from bottle
You prepare to gore the celestial shadowy male presence with your horns.
> You drink some of the strong rum from the big bottle.
> The celestial shadowy male presence fixes you with his gaze, his eyes

and judging you.
You manage to blind him.
Next step he completes his "gaze" spell unaffected.

That is poor guild design.
But at least it made it harder for him to think about hunting you.

So another fight another whine, guild get changed maybe.
This is what people has hated to see in the past, and would even avoid pfights so they can keep ubering the npcs and growing with their imbalanced ability.
We need to accept when something is imbalanced and fix it.

Im not back to whine, but I have been playing other stuff when I was away.
Its all vanilla compared to Gen.
But stuff like this wouldn't fly.

I hear you man. But I knew how the fight would come out, I didnt want to kill him but just make him leave the harrads. And to see what they could do :)

I did learn a few things.. :P that they HURT :D but a shame Nikiel wouldnt duel on fair basis, with the trying to get a kill, with blocking.. he knows Im no match when im danmed.. so why go for the kill unless your a .... Fart ! ;)

But it wasnt ment as a whine tread, just to show a good beating :)

Tarax. You are free to complain about guilds that you find unbalanced. I am not trying to defend SCs balance here but I figured you might want some feedback on your comments?
You have a defensive special but it didn't do much for you.
One cover in the whole fight, a standard attack.
Again it is probably a matter of one guilds code not working with the other.
You should be covering his roaring hammer a lot more and the odd gaze too.
A problem on the other hand is the Neidar reducing every type of damage incomming, where their special even seemed to block an Orge earthquake once I recall.
I don't know if you should dodge someone gazing at you in the first place, but I know you have a chance of cover combat specials etc it seems so maybe. Generally a SC does not hit very well with weapons in the first place.. so not that much but some poorly timed blows and some gazes to dodge.. maybe that is why we are seeing so few covers?
Most importantly though SC belongs to the old combat and magic code - AA belongs to the new code. Hopefully some of this will be looked into with the new magic system vis a vis specials/spells and dodging.

Regarding the major disappointment you had when reading the log. If you read back just a few lines in the log, you will see the presence concentrating (starting a spell) before becoming blinded and then the spell executes after being blinded. Many (at a point it was almost all specials and spells) in the old system, regardless of guild design, would execute IF they had been started before a stun/blind etc. It seems the new combat system takes care of this, and we can only hope the new magic system will do the same. This has nothing to do with SC as a singular problem but simply old code. I have been in many guilds who worked just the same prior to the combat system change.
This is what people has hated to see in the past, and would even avoid pfights so they can keep ubering the npcs and growing with their imbalanced ability.
There are many guilds that grow much faster than a SC ever will and also stand a very good chance of giving them a lesson of the day. There are also npcs that I see titan fighters managing with their hands tied and eyes closed that a bigger SC will find challenging. Some are even impossible. That is fair by the way - Instead of fast growth I have gained some other areas that agreed a SC can excel in. Though I would like to dispute the validity of your argument there though. From my experience it is simply NOT TRUE :)

Remember when you attacked me as a monk? You completely nullified me and beat me to a pulp even though I was much larger and fully prepared for the fight. Had Nikiel not been present I would probably have died. :)

It seems you have issues with the gaze spell, eventhough it has several hard coded restrictions (limits and restrictions other _far_ more potent spells of the same category do not share) and SC as a guild concept. Fair enough. You wish will come true though. SC will close. (no complaints there either - it is for the best and better things will replace it!) :)

I am very glad to have you back Tarax. Interactions with your character has always been interesting (excellent RP!) and I hope your issues with the SC guild does not sour your return too much!

Curse your cool headed logic. :D I pretty much agree with what you say and I am not here to whine.
I recognize the old code at play here and am glad you see the room for improvement.
Anything completing on stun is sick, while blind is pretty questionable.

Changes are in the works and we will get there eventually, at least we are trying to fix the problem.
For the record I have no problem with the SC, I think they were a great creation to balance other factors of the time.
I hope they make a speedy return and the new guild sparks some more activity into the realms.

My other point was about how casters and fighters are on a more even playing field in some other games.
You notice I wasn't just soloing out the SC but fighter versus mage.
But Genesis is what it is and I love it warts and all, this is part of what makes it special.
Mages have reigned pretty much supreme over the realms, perhaps the recodes will tilt the balance a little.
Afterall its no fun if it is too easy right?

The point about don't pfight and show your true power has applied to a lot of guilds.
That is when you know your guild has questionable balance.
The uber experience grinding wasn't a pop at the SC either, it has applied to a couple.
Even after the re-codes. Maybe when all are on the same system we can continue to tweak it.

One point of fact however, you were not much bigger than me in that fight, not where it counted at least. :P
Your mentals are the impressive difference over Tarax, which didn't count for much when you were not casting many spells.
I enjoyed him poking you full of holes with his horns, but also remember the balance questions that raised.

I miss him having the mino damage for sure, as I am not yet up power with the replacement which is more a tactical choice than all out attack. Not sure that suits him. Ah well will see how we get on the next time, going to do some quests first tho hehehe.

Ah Tarax. I should have realized you were generalizing and just using SC as an example then. I too look very very much forward to the new guild and whatever it will bring to the game :)

You are very right that it is no fun if it is too easy, but it has _never_ been easy to play a Cleric on the pfighting scene. Records show that Clerics have won many fights, (as in the other party retreats after a long fight) yes, but they have died many many times more than their opponents. In the wars against the Undeads the death ratio was I think around 14 to 4 (of those 4 only one was a full member of the opponents guild and took 2 clerics to take down), whereas the 14 dead clerics were generally full members and some of decent size too.

I know I know! Its because we are overpowered, the others are streetsmart and we don't know how to play Genesis at all!! :D
It is entirely due to our own lacking capabilities and has nothing to do with how the guild weaknesses in offence/defence have been designed.

Why this little rant and why did I respond at all? - because I think it has become very easy to just point fingers at certain guilds (such as SC) who are then demonized as the OP source of all evil, without taking into considerations the very hard work it might actually be to play these guilds and what the actual score count is for these guilds when they do engage in pvp, or for that matter look at other similar guilds and weigh them against one another.

I agree there is much room for levelling the playing field between fighters and mages but it also has alot to do with approach. Hektor was a mercenary fighting Goldman, Gadez, Recoba, Sirion and that lot (around 2001/2) and managing quite well on some accounts (unthinkable at the time - yes I am bragging  ) and other accounts the elf was running like a madelf a** being on fire... literally...

True Hektors stats were not that much bigger than Tarax where it counted (is this my cue to start a "goblins are lame and elves should be upped whine?" - no don't worry I actually like the races can excel in certain areas and hopefully mentals will really matter in spellcasting like physicals do in combat one day  )

I like your tactical changes with Tarax and look forward to the next time Hektor gets ambushed by you !
