Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
Hello Genesis ...
So, it appears that in the mystical land of Gizmopolis, someone thought it
would be a grand idea to quicken the mystic rune of destruction known as
CTRL-C. This is an all-powerful type of magic that cannot be countered, and
the results have not been good, as you have all noticed. Worse, it appears
that whoever did this, might have done it 2 or 3 more times right away after
doing it the first time. The result is everything has been completely wiped
from many racks, even the glowing items. (translation, someone on-site
rebooted the gizmo at least 3 times in rapid succession - this destroys the
process of recovery and glowing items for racks that were loaded by anyone who
logged back in right away.)
This is very wretched, indeed ...
I am sorry to report that it will NOT be possible to restore what has been
lost, in 99% of cases. There is just far too much to try to cover there, and
I refuse to do some but not all of it (simply not fair or feasible). What I
do feel is fair is to restore imbuement-related losses that fall into the
following two categories:
1. Items you yourself crafted using your stones and the forge.
2. Items that you paid 1000pc for from the Enchanter.
Everything else, including items you paid for from the Auction House, can not
be restored. This truly stinks, and we are looking at ways to make sure this
will not happen again, including moving the gizmo back to Europe! This evil
spellcaster in Israel clearly cannot be trusted. If you fall into one of the
above 2 categories, we will hopefully be able to help you. Mail Lavellan and
myself, if so.
Grrrrrrr ...
G.
p.s. We do not know who did this, but it is presumably someone completely
unrelated to Genesis who works at the same location the Gizmo is located and
did not know what the Gizmo was for.

Re: Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
It's just a game and things like this happen.
I am sure all will not agree with me. But it's a game.
Players have started over from clean racks before and managed.
Yes, it's frustrating, but we will live Wont we ?

Re: Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
Any estimate for when the server is up and running again?
Seren
//
The game is currently only open for wizards of the rank wizard and higher.
***********************************************************************
The game is closed for a few hours to move back to our own machine.
Wizards should NOT upload code until the new machine is up and running.
We hope to be on-line again shortly. In the meantime, please do NOT try
to connect constantly with your client. It will not get you in, and may
result in serious wizard annoyance.
Please be patient. It may take a few hours to move back as we want to
make sure all bits and donuts are safely home.

The game is up.
You are connecting to the wrong address. Use mud.genesismud.org 3011

Re: Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
So the server is back in Sweden now? Where is it? On what machine? The same place, home of Mercade? On the same machine?
Re: Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
We will be making the move back to Sweden soon, but have not done so for the game itself yet. That will be in a few days, possibly with the next Army. We'll post details when we have them set.

Re: Game Rebooted, Repeatedly ...
Is there anyway to avoid changing the IP address?
Not sure if I am using the correct one will find out soon I guess.
Just thinking each time we change makes it harder to find us with people using out of date mud lists etc.
Unless all the out IPs forward to the new or something.

Yes. What people need to do is stop using ip address numbers and always use mud.genesismud.org:3011. That hostname will stay the same across different machines. The actual numbers must change with location. So, as long as everyone sets their clients to log in to mud.genesismud.org at port 3011, the move will be simple.

Actually "people" don't "need" to do anything - they "can" do something if "you" interest them in it.gorboth wrote:Yes.
