It's awfully quiet

It sure is quiet around here...
Usually the winter season is the busiest for Genesis, as outdoor activities cease and people move in-doors from the cold. But it seems it is more quiet now than it has been in a very long while...And that's even with the promotional campaign going...or whatever it is.
Is it just me, that think it's a bit unusual and a bit unsettleing?

One thing I have noticed though, is that it seems that there is alot more "guests" who visit the forums, than before.
Maybe it's just when I pass by that I notice it, but we often have very few registered users logged in, a few anon users, and then 5-10 guests.
Could it be that those guests are actually not already part of the core community, but people passing by and checking it out?
Or is it perhaps just people surfing here from work, that isn't logged in to their normal registered account?

Keep in mind, this winter is when a ton of long-anticipated games are coming out. Skyrim is likely a huge one. Star Wars:The Old Republic is coming out soon. Battlefield 3 dropped a few weeks ago. D3 "supposedly" will be coming out "soon". Activity will probably drop off in Genesis while people are getting into these games and, hopefully, pick back up after they are less new.

I agree with you Makfly. For various reasons I managed to spend a lot more time than usual in Genesis during October and the number of players awake were usually 30-50 rather consistently with quite a few players who appeared to be new to Genesis as well. Since the beginning of this month the number of active players seems to have dropped dramatically though. I have no idea why to be honest.

I cant really think of anything else but the new game releases either.
I suppose it might be in part also because that positive feel about promotion and new webpage and stuff has kind of stalled. I dont think there is any promotion campaign going on. My post about collecting ideas on how to promote didnt bring much interest from the community either it seems.
I have also heard people feel Gorboth has "abandoned the game". Which obviously is not the case. Even Gorboth needs to focus on RL stuff at some points, he if anyone is allowed a break.
But thats the danger of relying one person of course. We dont really "need" Gorboth to promote, yet he seems to be the only person who can actually spark the positive feeling around here. The rest of us are more talk than actually doing something.

I know this probably falls under the category of not helping but .... it really sucks that this doesn't work. Fix it!!!!!

surely there are several meanings of the word "shortly" or one can argue about the meaning of "taking a look at it" - what it surely doesn't mean is "we'll fix it"
semantics ...

Well I can only agree. Dead links is a real killer. I have no idea how hard it is to fix, but in the meantime we should at least remove the link so we dont have non-working links. I am gonna try to ask someone who has access...
