Donut Dwellers,

One week ago, last Sunday on August 12th, a post appeared on the Official
Forum that is my favorite post I've seen there all Summer.

====================[posted by Laurel on the Forum]=========================

Title: "huh! what happened yesterday?"

there were pfights, pkills (afaik), other deaths and we had more than 35ppl
online in the evening! what happened and can we have it every day now? :D

============================================================================

And Laurel was right! Here is a graph of that day, which boasted our
highest single hit for player numbers during a given hour all Summer.

Mean daily average players per hour = 13.41
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It is fascinating that this effect occurred just three days after my mid-
Summer "summary" on the Common Board. While some might be tempted to credit
the extra login hours to time spent by players reading my Hemmingway-length
post (not funny ... STERN!) I believe we are actually seeing something that
is just perfectly natural: Involvement breeds involvement! So, some Keeper
being interested enough in the game to write a 3 billion word essay must
mean that Genesis is alive and interesting, and thus, people wake up and
start sniffing around. People log in, see the who list is big, and stay
logged in to check in with folks they haven't seen in a while. The who-list
grows more and the effect continues to spiral --- UPWARD.

This is how things tend to work around here. Obviously, me posting a big
note once a week isn't quite the answer (though I'm certainly happy to torture
Stern with such methods!) What I love is that I'm seeing a lot of you doing
the same thing. Many of the boards in the game are really alive and kicking.
The Ranger board, for example, is just off the charts. Naturally, you can't
all read it, but trust me, it is really great stuff! Those Rangers are
giving every guild in the game a run for most active and interested status,
with Knights probably coming in second. Now, all I'm basing this on is the
posts I see on boards, but those posts do a lot to (as demonstrated above)
breed that compounding interest that maintains the upward spiral.

So ... to finish out, check out this nifty shift in numbers:

+-----------------------+
| |
| Trend - Summer 2012 |
| |
+---------+----+-----+--+
| 14.0 | | | |
| 13.5 | | | |
| A 13.0 | | | |
| P 12.5 | | | |
| H 12.0 | | | |
| 11.5 | | | X|
| E 11.0 | | | X|
| A 10.5 | |X | X|
| C 10.0 | |X X | X|
| H 9.5 | |X X | X|
| 9.0 | |XX XX|XX|
| W 8.5 | X|XXXXX|XX|
| E 8.0 | XXX|XXXXX|XX|
| E 7.5 |XXXX|XXXXX|XX|
| K 7.0 |XXXX|XXXXX|XX|
+---------+----+-----+--+
| Month |Jun |Jul |Aug
+---------+----+-----+--+

Though the numbers are nowhere near where we would set a long-term goal, the
trend is perfectly excellent - interest is on the rise, and I think we all
can feel it.

Do your part to breed the energy with your interactions with your fellow
players, and think about posting in-game when you next feel the opportunity
arise. Surely you can knock the Rangers off their gold-medal platform!
