The above is something one of our community members alerted us to. I've got a Reddit account, and have done what I can to promote this idea, but I am not actually all that sure what works best on Reddit. Is Reddit the sort of place where you want a bunch of people backing up such a response as mine with additional posts of support/enthusiasm? If so, please consider using the above link to do what you can to promote this idea. :-)

If I were the guy in the OP there I'd jump right into Genesis after your post G, awesome job.

Nice find! I've included my 2cc and supported all your posts. Hopefully this professor selects our MUD.

Great work, guys! The original poster seems to be interested in having Genesis be the choice for his class.

Well, I think these are the guys that came from the reddit post:

Noobish, Donkeyteeth, Floodwater, etc...

I am of the option that characters in a new game are like intercourse (the first one doesn't count), but oh boy... Hard raw material to work with..

It is funny though, I keep thinking "what would happen if these guys actually took a strong interest in the game and kept growing?"

Imagine for a second...

The black-robed hooded wraith presents himself as:
Donkeyteeth, The Nazgul, myth, male wraith.

Donkeyteeth hisses: So, let's discuss this treaty...

Is a silly name a recipe for disaster?

While it all seems funny, sometimes, things like this make me crinch...

Your example has already happened, as I'm sure you know, and similar things will probably happen again.
...Who doesn't remember MrBobo or Ultraman (female) from the Rangers, and plenty of other stupid or silly and downright dumb names in the past. So even if they pick a stupid name from the start, it doesn't necessarily stop them from participating.
There have been cases where players have been barred from joining certain guilds, if they had silly names, but I think that's mostly a thing of the past now. Under Stern, a previous Lord of the Nazgul now Arch of Events, some players was barred from joining the Morgul Mages because of perceived silly names for example, but that's ages ago now.

Personally I'd rather players would be asked to change name to keep a higher standard of roleplaying, but then that would require the Wizards to grant name-changes to people - Which would be fine by me, as long as it was publicly announced. None of that's going to happen, though.

As long as a name is changed when the character is small enough, perhaps still in the tutorial, i don't see the problem.
I agree that it ought to be allowed and encouraged..

Ending up with more nazgul with cute fluffy names, is just silly. :p

I still look forward to teaming with Donkeyteeth :-)

teaming with Coins was bad enough - "the Coins cannot be taken"
I started playing with a guy who named his char Pixel - didn't last for long though
