I don't understand it, you're making the wiz process sound difficult. You're not bound by anything but what you want to do. There's no training course other then RTFM. Unless something big has changed you can start on whatever you want. As for a trainee project, if I remember right... it takes less then a week to finish. Less time then what it takes to join most guilds. You're not brainwashed and shackled down, you just code.

If there's something you want ask a wizard and offer to write up a layout and all descriptions, have it proof read and neat. Long as your not asking for something imbalanced or difficult im sure you could con someone into it.
