Diggin' holes

If I were to be in or About Cadu and wanted to do some digging what shovel would you recommend? I tried using my shovel from Emerald but it doesn't seem to be the right one (the holes are different than ones that I find around the place). I tried buying a mattock at the store, but I can't seem to dig with it.
