Meaning of "You don't have the mental strength"

Players,

for a certain quest I need to perform an incantation. In the right place with the right ingredients I am greeted with
"You don't have the mental strength to complete the spell."

despite my mana showing at full. Does this simply mean I have to become a smarter dwarf (yet) to be able to finish this quest?
I mean after all this dwarf can read and wield a quill.

It means your statistics aren't high enough to do something.

Thanks for the replies, everybody.
Yes, lack of intelligence sounds suitable. I will then simply wait it out until more brain cells grow on this here dwarf.

Is mental strength based on intelligence or wisdom? Hmm..
Regardless, finding certain brains and eating them will make "You feel more intelligent."
Of course there are ramifications for those who choose poorly..

Mental strength should be based on wisdom.. intelligence is just smarts and knowledge

Wisdom is how much you understand things and how well you can withstand the mental abuse from others and adapt to a situation

I don't know how you learn...

but I certainly use my intelligence to learn things..
and learning something is a prerequisite for understanding it.

Learning is not all about knowledge, but by understanding what you learn.. intelligence is just the form of knowing what you understand

I agree that learning is a means of knowing what you have learned, but what you learn is not understanding it

intelligence is learning that 1 +1 = 2.. wisdom is understanding why 1 + 1 = 2

knowing that there was a second world war is intelligence and knowledge.. understanding why it happened is wisdom, that is the difference

Wisdom is the application of knowledge.

Knowledge is knowing that the bus speeding toward you will hit you unless you get out of the way.
Wisdom is stepping out of the way.

Intelligence, I would say, is how well one learns and applies knowledge.

I agree with most of what you say, but the last thing is wrong, how well one learns is more about wisdom.. being wise and understanding the world.. intelligence is more about IQ and being able to remember things, being fast in rap-music and such.. Wisdom is about reflecting on it all, understanding WHY? wisdom is about being able to explain WHY things are as they are, why people act as they do, why guilds are in war

intelligence would give you information of who is in war with who, wisdom would make you understand why they are at war

Wisdom is more important for a caster because of that.. intelligence is a good bonus
