Donations Needed - Halloween Event

Denizens of the Donut!
Having successfully avoided being eaten all these years by
the Honourable Stern Urya-Yare, I'm looking forward to
subjecting you mortals to my creative madness.
So I looked into the event machine and found out that
it's quite empty on fuel. I tried all sorts of different
fuels: oil, wood, sparks, hobbits, meat from Stern's
elf-o-mat, and nothing would take. That is, until I dropped
in my favorite gem of all, the white pearl. Lo and behold,
it actually started churning a bit!
Which goes to my main point of this notice. I really want
to have a Halloween event starting October 31, 2017 game
time. But I'm gonna need all your help to start donating
some pearls to the mvseum. When the event machines gets
going again, we'll have a brand new Halloween event! So
head on over and start donating those pearls.
Petros, for the AoE team
PS. I think black pearls could work too, but the machine
can be rather finicky. Doesn't hurt to try!

And only top 3 of those who can start the event can participate in event, and then only the top 1 farmer of random items/mobs will get QXP.

can anyone ..... elaborate on mallor's response? or do the uninitiated just have to just wait and see?
(an event, I know. but top donors get rewards or some sort of head start, I guess? is it only for the top 10 donors?)

I was mostly sarcastic, but the whole idea of events is that best rewards are given out to top "contributors", others get less. The analogy would be this: you go and do torque quest, the reward, let's say is roughly fanta quest progress. But instead of dogetting fanta, you get nice, because majority of players did it faster than you. You still did all the quest required you do to, but got less QXP.

Not really sure if you're helping or confusing people Mallor.
Events are usually a form of 1 or 2 week long competition between players with quest XP, and sometimes item, rewards to the top performers. In the museum of events in Sparkle everyone can enter and read about previous events , I think that's the best way to understand what events are, especially since it can vary greatly between events. Another way is to look through the common board archive here on the forums and read through event announcements and result lists. That also explains a lot.
Perhaps the most classic Genesis event is the Scavenger Hunt, where a list of 150 items is presented, and then players compete to find as many items as they can. So it's kind of like the kiosk quest * 150. Then, those who have found the most items on the list when the event ends get a reward. every players get a small reward for each item they find, and then usually top 10 or 15 get bonus rewards. But there can also be special rewards, for example if you found something nobody else did, or similar. The Scavenger Hunt is usually both an individual event, and a team event.
That's just one example of an event though. They can be really anything. A few Christmases ago we all hunted Christmas hams all over the realms, and not long ago people were taking care of pet turkeys, and then duelling other player's turkeys in turkey fights.
As for Petros common board post:
Mortals donating gems to start events has been a tradition since events were invented. If players donate the type of gems the event machine needs, events will run. Not sure if the top donors gets any sort of reward. Guess there's only one way to find out?
