Alone he stands watch over leafy bough,
There by choice or ancient vow?

He watches us as we laugh and smile,
standing serenly all the while.

We think, we ponder, what will we leave?
Here with the ghost and his festive tree.

So many memories, thoughts and prayers,
each laid out for all to share.

One by one we fade from view
of the ghostly guardian, standing still.

There he'll be, still standing now.
Watching over leafy bough.
