Exploring Dargaard Keep

An old log from around 2004, Dargaard Keep was new, we set out to 'explore' it:

You are standing on a twisted road to the dreaded Dargaard Keep. You feel extremely insecure as you notice the once grand Dargaard Keep in the distance. The road continues southeast towards the Keep and northwest onto the Nightlund Plains. A withered tree stands near the road, and you think you notice something hanging from it.

A massive black chariot rumbles in.
The charioteer shouts: Passengers may now enter the chariot!
Rulindal hands some coins to the charioteer.
Xar studies the prices carefully, and finally decides to purchase a ticket.
Xar fetches some coins from his money-sack.
Pay whom? The charioteer perhaps?

Rulindal easily slips out of his saddle, dismounting the restless dark-brown warhorse.

You hand the charioteer a silver coin, and he nods at you, indicating that the chariot has a seat for you.

As you look around you see an old rusted seat with cobwebs all over it, the padding has worn away and left just bars to sit on. The walls seem to scream out in your mind, they seem to be begging for something. As you look out the window, everything looks darker then usual. The road seems almost to be burning with fire, as if you were in hell. If the chariot is standing still you can go out.

> The charioteer shouts a loud command at the horses and the chariot starts moving.
The chariot heads east along a small mountainroad.

Morpheus says: Does not matter..
The chariot turns to the south and begins a steep climb into the Dargaard Mountains.
Morpheus says: Can't bring the hose into the well anyway
You see the Dargaard Mountains outside of the window, the small path that the chariot follows seems to burn with an intense fire.

The charioteer pulls the reins and the horses stop. You have reached your destination.
The charioteer shouts: Passengers may now enter the chariot!

You jump out of the chariot.
The sun's rays are fading from view as the sun sinks below the horizon. A cool wind blows through the air, reminding you that winter is not far away. You are well on your way to Dargaard Keep. Far to the northeast the once magnificent castle stretches its tall darkened towers high into the air. The stone road continues to the north and south.

You are standing on a small stoneroad close to Dargaard Keep. Flat stones of various sizes make out the worn down road as it twists between the huge boulders and cliffs. The view over the Nightlund plains here is simple amazing, you can almost see Vingaard Keep far to the west. A strong contrast to the tranquil plains is the shadowy Dargaard Keep which arises before you to the northeast, the tall towers and jet-black walls slightly resembles a blackened rose. The stoneroad continues to the south and southeast.

The path is filled with rocks and boulders that have fallen down from above. The way to the southwest and northwest takes you back to the stone path.

You are standing in an alcove, halfway up a tall cliff in the Dargaard mountains. Far below you, the vast Nightlund plains cover the land and continues as far as you can see.

The sun's rays are fading from view as the sun sinks below the horizon. A cool wind blows through the air, reminding you that winter is not far away. You stand before the massive iron gate leading to Dargaard Keep. The road is filled with different footprints most of them leading into the Keep but only few ones leading out of it. To the east and west lies two small guardrooms. A steep path downwards takes you away from Dargaard Keep.

You are in the eastern guardroom in Dargaard Keep. In the center of the room lies a broken table and a bunch of rotten wood that might once have been a couple of chairs. A rusty weapon rack has been placed next to the eastern wall, however the weapons from it have been removed years ago. The exit to the west takes you back to the main gate.

Above, you notice the defensive structures of the castle. Ramparts to throw rocks at attackers who succeeded to breach the outer walls and funnels to let boiling oil rain on the unfortunates as well. The melody you have heard before seems to come from the inside of the castle. However, as you approach the song seems to end and the last notes of the sad and haunting melody ring out and fade to oblivion. North of you is the main entrance to the castle. You are standing on the buttom of a dried well. It looks like the water here disappeared years ago, and now only dry vegetation exists here. The walls have been made out of thick square granite stones that has been placed in a circular pattern. The buttom of the well is filled with dry dirt where only moss and grass grows. To the north, part of the granite wall has collapsed revealing a small opening.

You are standing at a spiral stairway which leads to the upper levels. The beginning of the stairway is flanked by two posts, each with a dwarven skull on the top. The eyes of the skulls glow eerily blue. Two humanoid, burning forms hover over the skulls, most likely the skulls' former owners, screaming in eternal but silent torment, however, providing ample illumination for the room and the stairwell. The blackened wall has partly collapsed to the west revealing a narrow opening into the darkness. The air down here is stale, damp and unnaturally cold. Strange sounds can be heard in the distance. Ankle-high mist covers the floor which seems to have a life of its own.

Above, you notice the defensive structures of the castle. Ramparts to throw rocks at attackers who succeeded to breach the outer walls and funnels to let boiling oil rain on the unfortunates as well. The melody you have heard before seems to come from the inside of the castle. However, as you approach the song seems to end and the last notes of the sad and haunting melody ring out and fade to oblivion. North of you is the main entrance to the castle. To the east and west the courtyard continues.

Ironically this place seems to be a strongold of shadows and darkness nowadays. The place seems to be neglected and abandoned and the wind drives a small shrub over the courtyard. An old well stands on the middle of the courtyard. The courtyard continues in almost every direction here.

The restless dark-brown warhorse shifts its great weight slightly, the powerful muscles rippling beneath its hair.
You climb down the old well.
You are standing on the buttom of a dried well. It looks like the water here disappeared years ago, and now only dry vegetation exists here. The walls have been made out of thick square granite stones that has been placed in a circular pattern. The buttom of the well is filled with dry dirt where only moss and grass grows. To the north, part of the granite wall has collapsed revealing a small opening.

You are standing at a spiral stairway which leads to the upper levels. The beginning of the stairway is flanked by two posts, each with a dwarven skull on the top. The eyes of the skulls glow eerily blue. Two humanoid, burning forms hover over the skulls, most likely the skulls' former owners, screaming in eternal but silent torment, however, providing ample illumination for the room and the stairwell. The blackened wall has partly collapsed to the west revealing a narrow opening into the darkness. The air down here is stale, damp and unnaturally cold. Strange sounds can be heard in the distance. Ankle-high mist covers the floor which seems to have a life of its own.

To the north you see a well-lit staircase leading up. The other passages are lost in the darkness, however, you hear a steady splashing of water to the north.

You are standing in a gloomy hallway underneath Dargaard Keep. A few torches lite up this place removing some of darkness. The cold and moist air covers the area like a blanket of smoke. The black charred walls are covered with small patches of moss and fungi, adding a strong smell to the air. The hallway continues to the north, south, east and west.

As you enter this area, the shivering coldness of the area disappears and you begin to feel quite warm. All the debris on the ground have been shoved aside making a small pasage that leads further southwards. A dimm lit hallway is located to the north.
