I think it's about time we take a look at how spellcasting works. I find it to
be a horrible setup that you can be casting spells with a weapon in your hands.

Most, if not all, fantasy RPG settings requires for you to have either free
hands or a wand to cast spells. The thought of someone wielding a huge
two-handed sword while making the intricate movements required to cast spells
is just ridiculous.

I say it's time to separate melee weapons from spell enhancers.
No character shouldn't be able to fight in melee and cast spells at the same
time, and having no drawbacks while doing so.

As it is, occupational melee fighters are just as good as casting spells as
occupational spellcasters, and while they're doing that, they're also doing a
lot more damage since there is no penalty in their melee fighting.
Therefore I say spell enhancers should be holdable items only. No weapons, at
all.

While I am already writing about spellcasters, I think it is also about time to
look at progress from fighting/grinding in relation to time spent.
With the current white hits settings, melee fighters do more damage than I do
and they can wake up and go ahead without any further preparation.
I, on the other hand, have to spend around 10-20% of my active time gathering
herbs and gems to make components, which allows me to not be as effective as a
melee fighter. Which of course then means that my overall progress is perhaps
20% slower than that of a melee fighter.

It used to be that I could gain some of that back by using teleport, and
further in the past spellcasters just did more damage when fighting.
But at some point, these "bonuses" was removed since it wasn't "fair", or
whatever was used as a reason.
I guess that with the current direction of the game, where everything has to be
completely even in terms of numbers, it isn't measurable to calculate time
spent on preparation and therefore cannot be rewarded otherwise.
I wonder if these decisions are the reason for why around 80-90% of OCC
spellcasters has left the game in the recent years.

I know I can't change anything from where I sit, and I don't have the skill or
energy to "wiz and do it myself".
So, I will hope that some people agree with me on this and that those in power
will look at what I am saying and consider if things are as they should be, or
if I am right in some of my points.
