Ring of steel...

The sounds of battle carry
from hilt to hand to head,
crashing in the ears;
echoing far across the valley
and down the mountainside,
out over waves,
against the Winds,
they pass beyond --
into the Void;

To faintly lilt over the grind
of Nether days so long and grey;
So to the World it calls us back
-- to slip the Nether chains --
and to return again to find
familiar warmth and company,
in friends seen true but not at all;
To be, together, who we would,
if all our hearts could just fly free.

But oft the Nether cruelly grinds
and takes the Life behind a Name;
Whether the reason's known or not,
it leaves a gap in ranks and hearts.
Lo, for the Lost, the World is wrought
to have a Hole right at its Heart,
a Ring of steel, not one to Bind,
but one to bring Them all to Mind.
