Launching GNN - The Genesis News Network

The Gnomes of Genesis are excited to announce a new service:

The Genesis / Global / Gnomish News Network (GNN) keeps track of all boards in
the realms and informs its subscribers on new notes posted on boards in far
corners (rounds) of the donut. As gnomes are already responsible for checking
all boards and fixing notes that became loose, with hindsight it was an obvious
new venture. GNN is brought to you in association with the Postmaster.

How does it work?
-----------------
At any bulletin board, you can 'follow' or 'unfollow' the board. When there is
news on any of your followed boards, you will be notified at login. In any post
office, you can check which boards have unread 'news' for you. The gnomes do
not copy the notes; they only inform that they saw a new note on their rounds.
You still have to travel to the board to read it.

You may check for 'followed' boards at any board or nearby post office and
'unfollow [name]' to stop receiving notifications about a board that you are no
longer interested in.

What else is new?
-----------------
When you examine a board, it will display the usage instructions (like with the
mail reader). Examine (or 'list') the notes to see the headers themselves;
don't fret, you'll get used to it. Use 'list news' or 'exa[mine] news' to see
the headers of unread messages and 'read news' to dive straight into it. There
are updated help pages on 'boards' and 'news' for further details.

What does it cost?
------------------
The Gnomes of Genesis are proud of their policy to provide great service at
affordable rates. The first 3 followed boards are free. For more boards, you
pay a monthly subscription fee of 2 gold coins for basic service and 3 silver
coins per additional board. In a post office you can 'news fee' to check. For
your convenience, the fee is direct debited from your GoG Account (if any).

Signed by Postmaster on behalf of the Gnomes of Genesis.

Ugh. Not a fan. Can we get the old functionality back alongside this stuff? Exa board was so much more intuitive than a whole page of this, that and whatnot. P.S. Gnomes suck. ;)

I don't mind the new stuff, but I agree that the old examine board...it just feels better. Can we have both options? Fancy stuff for the young ones and simpler old school style for the oldtimers?

Hmm, I am personally deleting the added line. Honestly it breaks immersion. Genesis was always great with immersion,
avoiding numbers and "computer style" UI... and now I have a line about mail like in MS Windows and some CNN status feed.

:(

Perhaps a simple options item could be added to disable this notification? options newsnotify off?
And yeah, exa board was so much better...

Would be cool if it was CNN in a small window on screen. :)

However thanks for the effort from the wiz in question.
Just because we don't quite like it doesn't mean it's not appreciated.
Would be more appreciated with "exa board" and an option to turn that line off,
as Yeren suggests.
