[Tarax the Terrible]

On a new pc. No mud settings atm so trying a few other things for fun.
Someone I know recommended this game, its free to play with optional paying for a few perks but not selling power.
So nicely balanced even if you are not paying.

Its like playing warcraft 3 pvp where all you control is a champion and don't worry about building etc.
Good fun for a while anyway, and defo nice for free.
Its got my creative juices thinking about how could the gameplay be converted into a warfare model for Genesis.
So no doubt I shall be back soon...

LoL is free but it's rather bad at the same time.
You might want to check out the WarCraft III map (mod more like it) called Defense of the Ancients, which is the original thing where LoL takes its roots (and main reason for WC3 piracy worldwide).
If you don't like dated graphics and would like to see something fast paced and beautifully looking at the same time, then I suggest the DotA clone called Heroes of Newerth which was released not so long ago by S2 games (creators of Savage series). HoN has native clients for Windows, Linux and OS X, it has dedicated servers, re-connect features and what not. Really great game (but not free unfortunately).

I played them all extensively (was playing in clanwars and what not) back in the days and HoN was by far the best of the three.

I'm an old DotA player, and I prefer LoL hands-down. I'm confused why you think League of Legends is "bad" but then would endorse DotA?

League of Legends is far superior. The game design is almost identical to DotA, except they are not limited by Warcraft III's engine. The summoner system, removing denying, logging leavers and rewarding victors with IP and XP, end-of-game stat displays, the /surrender command, recommended item lists for newbies, rewarding/encouraging aggression more heavily - just some of the things that makes LoL a more developed, better game than DotA - and I loved DotA.

This is to say nothing of the fact that, since it's their own engine and not Blizzard's, they are unlimited in the voices, models, and skins they add to the game aesthetically.

Now, I've never heard of or played Heroes of Newerth. I'll have to have a look at that.

I dislike LoL for its anime-like, cartoonish characters for the most part.

And all you said about LoL applies to HoN too, except it has far superior graphics.

Edit: Here's the cast from the HoN tournament, it's easier to see how it works when you get to see it done by the top tier players (not to mention the commentator is helping you understand what's actually happening if you're not a veteran).

if you want to meet people like Tanthalis, Valthard, Argor, Pshoddy or me in an on-line game: LoL currently is the best choice
European servers tho
