I still enjoy playing the game. Clearly others do too or none would be logged in. Its too bad you two dont like it, but considering there is so much you dont like about it you're probably better off playing a game you do like?

I dont understand the point of your note though Targun. If you dont like it, dont play. If you want to play, but want things to change, change it, suggest changes, help out. What you did now does absolutely nothing. I dont play WoW, but I have no problem with others playing it, and I certainly dont hang around WoW forums saying WoW sucks. It serves little purpose for anyone...

What you're saying here makes you sound completely ignorant really.
You do realize there are people that has been trying to change things for years, but due to the archaic mindset of an anachronistic admin NOTHING CAN GET DONE.
Reason most of the peope that still log on actually are around is NOT because of the game.. It is in fact despite the game.
Horrible game design, yet i keep logging on too.
And why? Because the actual community(the people that play) are an excellent bunch..
Yet we see fewer and fewer bothering with trying. Just this last year we have lost 2-3 longtime players.
In a regular MMO this wouldnt even matter for the game.. For us with the small community that we have its a great loss.

And now you Cherek.
Since you became a wizard, how many things do you think you could really have made an important impact on?
Have you made any big changes?
Or have you, as i suspect, been put on maintenance projects of little value and not really have gotten to do anything for the game or put any new code into the game?

Hmmm, we're doing such a great job improving and maintaining such a great game, why won't those hordes of players come play it ... strange ... it's obviously a flaw on the players' side - both those who don't play anymore and don't play yet!

I think the community and the game should be happy that people who are not playing, are still around on the forums, as long as those people are staying away from trolling.
Drawing someone (back) in from the forum, is probably also a lot easier than pulling in a completely new player.

Speaking of the forum...Actually the forum seems to be a lot better at retaining players than the game is.
Hell, I'd even argue that often times, it's more interesting talking about Genesis than it is playing Genesis - And it also feels more like a multiplayer experience talking about it, than playing it.
Maybe that's just me, though.

The wizards, work to create a game people can play. They dont get paid, they
do what they can with the time they have. You guys keep demanding things,
change that, change that. The game is what the game is, face it. Of course
wizards should be open to suggestions etc, but it is THEY who create the game
for us, not we who give them possiblities to code.

Of course, it is a symbios, what fun is it to make a nice quest, if there are no
mortals around to solve it, so we have to scratch eachothers backs.

But this whining, so tired of it really. I would tell you dont play then, but I
prefer you all stay around and enjoy the game. But honestly, if you dont
enjoy Genesis, why do you play then?

Amberlee: Woah, why so mad at me personally? Yeah I think Targun's note was useless, and just as he is allowed to share his feelings, I am allowed to share mine. There are different ways to say "this sucks". Imho the way you two are currently doing it isnt the right way.

Targun: Sure you can write bad reviews of the game if you want. But I asked what the purpose is? Stop others from having a horrible game experience? Thats usually why I tell people "dont see that movie", "dont go to that restaurant", etc. Thats your purpose? If you wanted all those things you mentioned fixed, your note probably isnt gonna motivate anyone to fix anything. I sure dont feel motivated. The more I hear about how the game sucks and people seem to hate it, not only dislike _hate_ it, the less I care too. Obviously. If people mention things they like, and share fun and positive stories from/about the game, that make me wanna play too.

Anyway, you can think the game is useless if you want. And obviously you are allowed to share it wherever you dont. I dont agree though, I think its a good game. Worth playing, and worth promoting.

Amberlee: I play the game as a mortal. I have a wizard char because I thought I wanted to code. I havent felt any motivation though and the only thing I really want to do is promote the game. Sadly, its nothing you can do alone. I wanted to create a global promoton event, but after seeing the result of the vote I started some month ago, where a big majority of the community wasnt interested, that idea seemed useless. I did fix so Genesis can be played through Facebook. I guess that can be used in some way if there ever is a promotion campaign. That basically the only things I did this time around as a wizard. Generally I try to be an active player who tries to RP, interacts with others when possible, and try to play actively when I play. (not botting).Thats good enough for me.

Makfly: Actually I agree too, talking of Genesis is often more interesting than actually playing. When there is little interaction in the game (almost always), I enjoy the Facebook chat, talking to people on MSN about Genesis, or writing here. People _want_ to talk to other people. The ntell chat proves that, but as soon as there is some kind of talk going on its hushed by someone who doesnt wanna break the ntell rules. I am definitely in favour of an in game chat, but in the Genesis way. Wasnt it you who suggested some type of global magical messaging system?

Nah you wouldnt want me to run the game. Having ideas and good intentions is one thing, but you also need to to have the motivation and energy to actually DO it too. I'd probably just come up with tons of ideas and then stumble on actually making it happen. I dont agree with Gorboth and the admin on everything, but I have nothing but respect for them as they are some of the few people who actually do things instead of just talking/suggesting/complaining.

As for people voluneteering to do things and are ignored? I dont know anything about that so I cant really comment.

You still don't get it Cherek. Genesis used to be a fine game. But if you take a look back- 20 years or so- it has hardly changed. Hilariously, the only thing that was done was re-introducing features that were present 15 years ago. If you take a look at other games and how they _EVOLVED_, you'll get my meaning. Mario, Donkey Kong or Pacman stand absolutely nowhere to modern games like Battlefield, Skyrim or whatever other title. The difference is striking.

Even when you dare a glimpse at the MUD's themselves, they EVOLVED. I mentioned number of times the polish mud that was created only to the kindness of Genesis Administration. The mudlib and the driver were heavily modified right from the start, but were Genesis'. Still, since then; in terms of game mechanics, combat and game design Genesis is light years behind its 'child'. It has a steady 100 online playerbase, despite the fact the administration are former players, sticking with their former guilds, somewhat seriously corrupted and have on their concious some major screwups.

Merely acceptable combat mechanics and game design keeps enough population playing- and you know what? Triggers are forbidden. Any of them (that make your character perform any action) and are heavily punished. And I'm more than positive, if they had dropped 'nepotism' there would be a playerbase of over 200 people online, as it once were. The thing is, Genesis is something less than what it's been 20 years ago. Turning a blind eye on botting or botting like activities has ruined the game.

In fact, some guilds were almost tailor made just for this purpose. Eg. Calian+Neidar. The greatest asset of Genesis were always players, roleplaying, community. Each of them were killed with 'allow triggers grind policy' and no changes to the combat system or game desing for over 20 years. Once some old PvP features were restored they were from another, long time gone, era, while other muds provide hundreds time better mechanics and, in fact, even further stripped the game of balance.

Genesis currently offers nothing. No challange in PvE, which is covered by triggers. No PvP, no roleplaying and community, which were killed by the mentioned. I'd love to play Genesis as it once was and still hold a great amount of fond memories. Yet the game was killed and I hardly see a way to revive it with so much demage done. Talking about positive energy won't mean a thing unless something is actually DONE.

Things like refreshing combat system, adjusting players/mob ratio to the current sizes, reasonable PvP skills added, heavy and restrictive policy on botting. This might get players back as it will require to actually play the game and pay attention. Once you pay attention- because you want to, you meet new people, make friends and eventually get the community. You can't make a friend to a bot. Sadly.
