Fellow Genesis Enthusiasts,
I am extremely excited to announce the launch of something that has been
in development for many months - our new Official Client! This client is
a full revision from what we have had before, and its many features include
the following:
- It instantly launches using the "PLAY NOW" button on the website.
- It runs in your browser, rather than forcing you to download a java-
supported external program.
- It integrates the background tileset designed by Denis Loubet to have
a consistent general appearance with the rest of the website.
- It features a dynamic persistent window in the top right that shows
the magic map in supported areas. This is a *radically* newbie-friendly
new bit of game support that shows a red "X" mark that travels as
you do around the magic map. What is more, the map will shift within
the window to make sure that your "X" is always within the bounds of
the sized window.
- The bottom right window is for any communications that you hear,
which makes for much easier tracking of conversations that might
occur in the midst of battle, or other "spammy" situations.
- Beneath the main play window's text-entry box are three status bars
indicating your health, mana, and fatigue. These will change in real
time as your various levels for each shift in the midst of play.
- A "SETTINGS" button will take you to an interface for creating your
own aliases and triggers that will be saved for you.
- The standard keypad numbers will allow for quick-typed travel as
is standard in many clients such as Zmud or Cmud.
I encourage you all to give it a try, and provide feedback either here in
Genesis or (probably even better) on the Official Genesis forum. This is
still just an "Alpha Test" period for the client, which is planned to be
continuously improved and bolstered with new features and fixes as we find
them to be needed or desired.
To get started, just go to the official site, and click the PLAY NOW buttom!
Huge thanks here are due to Eowul for his amazing work developing the client
itself, to Cotillion for collaboration on the client and supplying needed
tweaks to the gamedriver and website, to Mercade for much work done to
create the needed infrastructure in the mudlib for all the GMCP protocol,
to Sandalphon for his wonderful work with our original client which is now
being taken off-line, and to Tapakah for his original vision years ago in
the direction of bringing protocols to the Genesis experience.
I'm in love with this thing!
G.
