Code: Select all
Hello all,
With the changes to stat_boost imbuements in the game, we've been able to
take a look at how it worked out, and we are very satisfied with the change.
As such, we want to make the idea of scaling one that will now extend to
all imbuements.
The idea is this:
- No amount of stacking should allow multiple imbuements of a given
level achieve or exceed the power of a single example of the next
highest level. For example:
many "faints" < a single "pronounced"
many "pronounced" < a single "intense"
... no matter how many you stack.
We're now going to extend this philosophy across the board so that all
imbuements maintain this economy of scale. It will mean that intense
imbuement effects truly are rare, and something to work hard to achieve,
rather than simply getting the effects cheaply through stacking of the
lower levels.
Changes will be rolled out over the next few weeks, but are likely to be
in place soon.
G.
Mmmmmm ... pie ...

Just to clarify, diminishing returns on stacking will only apply to imbuement stacking? So if I stack dex imbued faint with a pair of grey boots, or stack with a guild spell, I will not see diminishing returns because they are of different sources? This only applies to stacking with imbuements specifically?

I think this kind of consistency is great. Just to be explicit, this is only for imbuements, right? Other items are additive to the imbuement values. As an example if I have:
- A pronounced imbue that raises X by B
- 7 faint imbues that raises X by A (which is less than B)
- A non-imbue item that also raises X by C
- Eat herbs that also raises X by D (I assume herb increases get capped at some point and we know they wear off)
- Cast a spell that raises X by E
The pronounced imbue contributes its A
The 7 imbues would would be giving B (which is always less than A)
The item would add its C
The herbs would add their D
The spell would add its E
So my gain for X would be A + B + C + D + E.
Is this (admittedly contrived) scenario correct?

The stacking formula that we're implementing is specific to imbuements. If you stack imbuements with non-imbuements, the normal global stacking rules will apply. For example, resistance and haste already have global stacking rules that don't change.
Remember these rules:
- Any number of faint imbues will never be as good as a pronounced imbue.
- Any number of pronounced imbues will never be as good as an intense imbue.
If you have both one pronounced imbue and many faint imbues, the faint imbues will be combined and treated as a weaker pronounced imbue. It will be less than having two *actual* pronounced imbues. To treat it as a simple addition of A + B would actually make it stronger than B + B.
Hope that makes sense!

Is it possible to have diminishing returns on stats aswell, to even out size differences that we have in Genesis today? Does it exist, and if so can it be improved?
Is this a factor in special calculations? Should it be?

I think this is a fantastic idea! Skills dont go over sup guru with imbues. Why would stats go over say, supreme, when using imbues.

Because the soft cap is higher and races have different modifiers.

Yes but there could still be a limit on supreme (or any other limit) with the help of imbues. So yes, if you are a kender with supreme dex and wear a dex imbue it doesnt help since you're simply too agile to be helped more. Makes sense to me. Just as a sword imbue is useless if you already have sup guru sword.
