Suggestion
What do you guys think about reintroduce critical hits? Not like the old days when any NPC could kill you in one blow, no matter of size, but something more refine.
I'm thinking critical hits that occur by chance (low but still noticable) and will deal damage equal to 30-80% of the characters health. Defence skill will lower the damage taken (max 30%) meaning tanks will take less damage from the attacks while healers/clerics/mages (max 80%) will recieve more.
Pros:
-Add some excitement to daily grinding.
-Today the more damage you bring to the team the better, this will make the roles Tank and Healer more importent in team. In short team diversity.
-Will prevent/slow down botters. Hopefully kill those with terrible scripts
-Force interaction when forming team with the right attributes, making alliances etc
Cons:
-Slower single player grinding
-Slower script grinding
This idea also makes sense. I am a huge MMA fan and I have seen champions being beaten by rookies mostly because they get to confident. Therefor any NPC can make huge damage on any player, no matter of size:)

Re: Suggestion
I was always a fan of wound system they introduced in Demonsgate when it was still alive and kicking. Basically, every player and NPC had a chance to score a critical hit that would result in a random wound. They ranged from bleeding wounds (which would make you lose health over time), wounds that prevent healing, broken bones (where you can't wear shield/wield weapon if they broke your arm) and the only way to heal them would be seeking help from healers that were scattered over the world (or have someone in a guild capable of healing those wounds do it).
This way you get criticals that can give you an advantage but not outright kill you, add more depth to the fights and make guilds with healing abilities way more important, especially when fighting big stuff.
You could also acquire more than a single wound. Only one of them didn't hurt much (prevents "natural" healing even when obliviated) but each subsequent one would make you lose health. With four or five wounds it was a race to get to the healer (sometimes being two ships away) before you succumb to your wounds.
I think this system was better than straight out criticals since it gives you time to react and act accordingly. Making important judgement calls (should I stay or should I go now) during fights is something that I think we could use more of.

Re: Suggestion
Critical hits have been in the game for over 15 years. The ones you mentioned, where a rat in Sparkle could crit a champion to death are gone, but we do have them. Sadly, they don't have special messages, so they typically go unnoticed.

Re: Suggestion
It is the old one I want to reintroduce but not as lethal as it used to be. 30-80% of the players current health will never result in death but maybe a dangerous moment for the none attentive.gorboth wrote:Critical hits have been in the game for over 15 years. We can add a size check to the formula that compare size on attacker vs defender and decide odds based on the gap between them. So if Gorboth attack the rat in Sparkle there would be a tiny tiny tiny tiny tiny chance that the rat would get a critical strike since Gorboth is Huge! The rat can afterall carry many different diseases.
Re: Suggestion
This is also an interesting idea, I never played Demonsgate so I have not had any experience with wounds(except for RDA:s). Maybe some guilds would have the ability to heal such wounds or maybe even a craft guild.Zhar wrote:I was always a fan of wound system they introduced in Demonsgate when it was still alive and kicking. Re: Suggestion
Well, I think that Valar, RoW, WotE and PoT should have the ability to heal those wounds (not sure about the minstrels). The craft guild could be introduced too, it would provide the "first aid" training and if you had necessary supplies in your doctor bag you could patch people up.
But it's all just speculation for now

Crits can be fun, except when they are not.
Code: Select all
> Smog chatters: hows your brute?
Ravenrage attacks you!
You barely scrape Ravenrage's body with your violet-edged red shortsword.
You begin preparations to use a special attack form.

You barely touch Ravenrage's right leg with your basket-hilt falchion.
Barl resonates: somewhat violent

you.
You scrape your basket-hilt falchion along Ravenrage.
You feel calm again.
Smog goes ack!
You feel a fresh wound open on your head as the jagged black scimitar tears
into you.
The jewel on the jagged black scimitar pulses brighter, and you feel drained.
Ravenrage slashes at you with his basket-hilt falchion high, driving you back a
step, then abruptly swings around the other way and thrusts into your side with
his jagged black scimitar!
Ravenrage's attack lightly wounds you!

A bolt of blood-red energy leaps from the jagged black scimitar and burns you

You execute Dragon Strikes The Tiger at Ravenrage!
Your attack barely scratches Ravenrage!
You are physically slightly hurt and mentally degraded.
Smog is very hurt.
Barl is somewhat hurt.
Ravenrage is feeling very well.

Ravenrage panics and flees north.

You call upon the power of the stygion black sword.
In response, power flows into you and you fade from sight!

Attack who?

An urge to slay all within your reach seems about to overwhelm you, but
thankfully the urge subsides.
You shout: The world is mine to conquer!
You cackle with glee.
You shout: EEKS

Ravenrage projects a thought to you:
Dont go north
You feel power flow from within the foul stygion-black sword to empower you
against anything.
You smile demandingly.
Ravenrage projects a thought to you:
Chit! me DD :)
Smog leaves limping north.
Barl projects a thought to you:

If they are in the game now, what do they do ? Just an extra amount of damage or something else ?gorboth wrote:Critical hits have been in the game for over 15 years. Were fumbles ever part of the game in the part ? They could be introduced to spice thing up a bit.
Fumble effect could be along the lines of dropping a weapon or piece of equipment, slipping over, stunning yourself etc.
Fumbles could be introduced for spells as well with the effects like extra loss or the spell affecting the wrong target.
