I've noted a few major themes in the guild entry threads.
1. geting into guild with Idle or apathetic members
2. presurving the rp and community application creates
3. people either shunning somone unfairly/cliques
4. keeping the specialness in certian guild structures
5. people being upset becuase they can get what they really want.
All are issues and I've seen them clearly with the rangers
and chances are no situation will make everyone happy
we actually have had a point where there were no rangers
on all at the same time. a very frusterating point for applicants.
however we have also had applicant who's solution to
this was go to the dark side, Makes one question how
committed they were to our cause to begin with.
Well I can see a few ways to avoid this(using rangers as the example):
1. you could open the brown company as an anyone can join branch
and leave the green/ gray companies as application only
2. instead of relying on someone to vouch or agree to let them in
you can make it based on a vote before or while they are tasking
if they have more No than Yes votes they don't make it if no one is
on they get in by default. that way if noone is on or noone cares it
will be simply a NPC pledge guild. make it so people can change thier
vote if the ranger who voted no changes their mind of course.
both options will fix the issue of idle guilds not letting people in.
both options have their own issues as well. the first option takes
some of the uniqueness and elite feeling away from the guild but
it is fair on the level it excludes no one. the second option does
keep the illusion of exclusiveness as long as active members are
enforcing the limitations. but if the members are over cliquish the
guild will fall anyway.
Considering the modern population of genesis an objection based
entry system would be preferable to a vouching system as it takes
some of the stress away from making sure people don't fall through
the cracks and focusing it on making sure they don't sneak in through
the cracks. and id very much love having a general entry branch of
rangers that we can pick from to get into the more specific branches.
but I'm sure not everyone would feel the way i do.
And there will always be people that try to keep more out than healthy.
as well as some applicants who may be upset they cant get into the elite
branches but i think its better to have some non ideal members than to
fade away. and as far as rp goes you need people for RP. if noone is on
but you no one is rping.
Until a more automated system or other solution is made I'm sure
We will continue to try to help hopeful young rangers through the
current system. which is a large improvment over the
manual mentoring system. though i really cant speak for all rangers.
