Code: Select all
In the past there was a wedding in old Emerald. In came a group of Vampires and
killed the bride.
That must have been a terrible thing for her and her husband.
Still Pkills happen and there have been numerous of 'bad' kills in the game.
Neither of which I think is 'the worst thing' in the history of Genesis.
Conflict is a major part of the game, and without it, the game would be boring.
The worst thing, and no close runner-up, is what happened in Angmars guild.
A group of players, enemies to Angmar, found a way into the guild.
There they waited in the sleep chamber, and killed those who woke up.
Naked, no armour, probably a block or two, made them easy victims for the
attackers.
Today, one may laugh about the whole thing, but what it was was an attack on a
stone pillar of Genesis.
An attack on the internals of a guild hall with a devastating result on it's
inhabitants.
The administrators and the guildmaster ofc realised this.
The 'opening into the guild' was plugged and players restored.
As it should be with such a dramatic fail on the guild creation.
No one in charge, or among any player I have met during the years, had anything
to say about that.
There was a laugh at the failed code, and people moved on satisfied with the
outcome and the fast fix.
Now why was this so bad? Why was the hole plugged? Why restored players?
I belive it was because it was an attack on one of the ground pillars of the
game.
A core function that is so extremely important to Genesis.
An attack to what should never ever have been possible to attack.
A guild hall.
Imagine for a second, a knight wakes up in Vingaard Keep.
The whole place is in ruins.
No racks, no Gunthar (killed remains still there), no stable, no nothing.
Some sad knights that were killed trying to save the keep.
You try to ask the GM and wizards what happened, but all you get is that BDA
crushed the keep and that is that and part of a grand plan they had for years.
You desperately ask why this plan was a secret to your guild.
-:"It was revealed on Discord a year ago" a RDA General tells you...
What would happen with the guild members?
No VK. Would the comerade ship remain?
After a while, guild members leave.
Some leave Genesis in anger. Some go Calia. Some play alts and some you just
have no clue where they went.
They do not show up in the WHO list.
Or what would all Calians do if Calia castle were run over by RDA?
If Neidar was destroyed by PoT?
If Morgul Mages devastated the ranger halls?
Think about it with an open mind.
-:"It's just a game!"
I have heard that many many times.
But I have always felt that was wrong.
Genesis for many of us is part of life.
We come here to enjoy and have fun.
We come here to meet our friends, team up with them, and to enjoy life.
Genesis has run for more than 30 years. It is close to 35 now I think.
When I started the core group of players were teenangers playing from school.
Many of those I met on my first Genesis party are still here.
Some are the best friends in life.
Now imagine a Genesis without guilds.
Personally I do not belive the game would exist any more.
It would have been abandoned years ago.
Perhaps there would be something else instead, but I can not see it.
Guilds are core to the game because of those characters in there and to the
persons behind the keyboard who play the characters you love.
Friends that are among the best you have in life.
So the attack on the internals of the Angmar guild was the worst thing ever.
A fine and important move it was deemed so and quickly removed from the game.
Luckily for us that were there then, we played with a GM and administration
that agreed.
They realised that it was something bad. Very bad to Genesis.
Something that should never ever have been there.
They squashed the bad code as you squash a bug under your boot.
That was a good thing they did back then.
Lars would agree I think. To him friends, a cheer, a drink and having fun with
your close friends was important.
Code that destroys those functions is just terrible.
