PvP.

Greetings All,
this note is intended to start a constructive thread on PvP.
Just a few minutes ago Beregond was slain by Freya and Bofur.
During the last few weeks he has been attacked several times by the two, and
also by others.
Currently Beregond is a Hero. Both Freya and Bofur Myths.
When Beregond asked the reason for the attack, he was told by Freya that she
and Bofur are Angmarim, and that is sufficient reason.
At the same time Bofur says that he attacks because Beregond refused to give
him the name of a Hobbit Herald that has scried Bofur the other day.
During the combat, Beregond managed to cast a prayer of Peace, which prevents
combat for a while.
When this prayer is cast, Bofur calls the 'spell a fucking joke'.
So, my point is:
PvP: It can be really fun. Exciting, adrenalin-inducing, challenging and more.
Roleplay: It can be really fun. Entertaining, funny, challenging, and more.
The game of Genesis allows for both. I think this is good.
It makes the game versatile and allows for different player styles to fit
paralellel to each other.
So, my question is?
What is the point of attacking and slaying a Hero with 2 Myths?
Is it worth doing, just because you can? Is their an ultimate goal to it?
I am afraid I cannot see the PvP challenge, nor the roleplay in it.
And I freely admit, that the third death of the week has effected my moral a
bit, but I still cnsider the topic of value.
Allow me to share an anecdote:
-when doing Martial Arts a few years back, in a elite training group, a new
member entered the team.
-he met one of our more aggressive fighters during training
-as he was new, the aggressive fighter was offered the advise to allow the new
member a bit of pace (not slack)
-when given this advise the aggressive member lost his temper fully
-he went on about "his" training being disturbed and lowered in quality etc
What I believe the aggressive fighter failed to see, is that without the other
members of the team,
his training is unexistent.
He is dependent on the others sharing the Dojo, for his training and
development, as well as his challenge and fun.
I think that this could be something to discuss here as well.
Why push players to the egde, where they feel close to leaving the game, by
repetetive attacks against over-whealming odds?
And please, since I wanted to keep this topic constructive;
it is not our own fault if we create the Dagarim Aran and then "cry" when we
get killed.
Please read my note where I clearly state that the Dagarim Aran is a 100%
roleplay-idea.
We have stuck to that ideal since the start.
Sincerely,
Beregond's player

Re: PvP.
Pvp is abit flawed as most of us know.
The real problem is people taking advantage of it just like in Beregonds example.
Theese persons ruins this game not only in those incarnations but also in other
forms..the wizards accepts it however..why? I have no idea.
Can we afford having people/players doing this repeatable? Is it worth keeping a few people
when it might cost us many more due to their actions?
Wizards and especially Gorboth must wake up and do something about this.
A warning to theese players years ago might have saved us a few players
that already left us..

Re: PvP.
They were in the old Angmarim guild. Same behaviour. Guild closed.
They were in the vampires guild. Same behaviour. Guild closed.
They are in the Angmarim guild. Same behaviour. If the guild closes, they will become ogres (or some other guild member) and continue with the same pattern.
Some people will never change, unfortunately. Some people were expelled from the game, and years later allowed to return. It is sad, but either you remove the bad players from the game, or the good players will stop playing (a warning I made a couple of years ago, and we can see the game is now filled with PvP centered players that keep trying on expelling those not interested in it).

Your first question: First and foremost, I'd say to ensure the kill happens. By maximizing firepower, you may strike fear in the heart of the player, and be sure of a swift victory while at the same time be prepared for any 'decoy/bait' tactics. Strategically, it may be a good thing to do, even if it's a total overkill.
Your second question: I think this one happens both ways, especially if the parties are in an active war. Did you do something that placed yourself in a crosshair?
Besides, what prevents _you_ from retaliating the same way? Gather them allies and friends, set up your enemies for bloody gory ganks?

Re: PvP.
I am tired of these discussions.
I too think wizards need to fix this. Its a huge problem for the game.
I'll say what I always say. Make up your mind about what type of game Genesis is supposed to be and stick with it. Be clear about it.
I dont wanna blame Freya or Bofur. They are just players. Players can be "good" or "bad" or whatever but players should not be responsible for the well-being and will to play of other players. Wizards should. Or game developers. These are the people that should make sure everyone who plays the game is provided with a good experience that another player CANNOT ruin.
Sure, you can harass someone and ruin their game, but that is against the rules and the player harassing someone will be deleted. But you should not be able to ruin the fun of other by just following the rules of the game.
If you can do that, the game is poorly designed and flawed. Not its players.
So many people think their game is "ruined" when they get killed by larger players. I think its up to wizards to fix this so the pvp part of the game is fun for everyone. How?
Cap stats so people have more even size thus can get back at a killer is one, drastic, way.
Another not so controversial would be to provide a war-type system to focus pvp in areas to those who want it, if pvp in these areas is more FUN, then the pvp lovers will flock to these areas and fight eachother and those who dont want to fight can for the most part stay out of it.
Make the penalty for pvp death much less than a regular death. If you want death to keep player size down, it isnt working anyway so we might as well remove a big portion of pvp death penalty so that dying by someone else doesnt set you back months in grinding at least.
Or something else. Throwing out Freya and others from the game will solve nothing at all imho. And why should they be thrown out? For following game rules? I think people should focus the anger on the right direction, on those who set the rules, not on those who play the game by them.
