Great idea, but why not make it worth my time to go myth hunting – it’s a much harder thing to accomplish that kill, and should have greater rewards for the victor. A myth killing a hero shouldn’t have as big of a “reward” much the same way as a myth killing a hero-sized NPC is a smaller exp reward compared to a hero-player taking on the same NPC. A myth killing a hero should be less painful to the hero than that same person dying at the hand of someone of equivalent size. (I realize my examples presume one-on-one fights, but I’m sure someone smarter than me could figure out how to address teams involved in PvP.) It still allows someone to take vengence on a smaller player for spitting in their face, but incentivises the rest of us to go after the big jackasses who find their joy in the game not in RP but in killing the rest of us.
This is a great idea. Post it in suggestions.

Or we could all just become good friends RP wise with Freya, Irk, Poet, etc. and do everything in peace.

You would be surprised how many people would actually want Bully added.

Right, there are people who would think this pretty awesome. Now if you made it varying levels of "Fairy Princess" or "Cuddly Bunny" or "Asshat" it might be a deterrent...

This whole problem is why most MUDs have level restrictions on player killing.

However, I'm not suggesting we do that. In all my years of Genesis, I've never felt I've been truly griefed by players, and Genesis is set up in such a way that survivability is an option - it is a big world, lots of safe rooms, lots of places to hide, and it is easier to flee than it is on most MUDs. Maybe it's because I developed better twitch reflexes on MUDs where getting killed is a daily occurrence, but I could probably count the times I've been killed by another player on one hand (and frankly, I don't remember ANY specific incidents, though I've been attacked plenty, and I'm sure it's happened over the last 10 + years).

That said, that reality also makes the situation even more skewed towards the myths. If I can survive this long and as well, as someone who has never been above a rising hero, then a myth can be pretty darn close to indestructible if he or she really wants to be. The myth is not really assuming substantial risk or consequence by doing whatever the hell he or she pleases, while anyone smaller is assuming great personal risk to their character if they choose to be aggressive.

One solution World of Warcraft implemented, was to scale PvP combat dynamics differently than PvE. A lower level player can inflict more damage to a higher level player than he can to a higher level NPC. The higher level player would still win a fight, but because of the way damage was scaled, a group of lower levels actually could form a group and take down the higher level player, even though with unmodified combat stats and the level differential they would have been mowed down every time.

And regarding the original topic, I'd have no problem with global mercy. The "problem" of good characters using it and evil characters not, is easily remedied by the good powerhouses turning it off when they are engaged with violent evil killers.

Even if you forget, mercy knocks the victim unconscious for a brief period of time, long enough for the assailant to turn mercy off and deliver a finishing blow, should they feel it necessary.

I recently suggested that in another thread. I think its the way to go. But the myths didnt seem to like it... But perhaps its worth a shot in sending the idea to the wizards.

Just because Freya doesnt like it, it doenst mean its a bad idea.:)
