Bring the stat cap
And I mean bring it now, because every day people are growing bigger and the problem of Genesis is getting worse (mindless grind).
And don't make it at the size of the biggest player right now, make it much, much, much lower. I long for the days when most people needed to team to take down a dragon, and if you could do it solo it usually meant at least a bit of challenge, it made sense.
And before big people start to whine that they've lost all this time growing, throw them a bone. After you reach the cap you still keep growing and getting 'phantom stats'. Whenever you die you're losing phantom stats first, before losing your real stats, which means that current myths could die quite a few times without losing anything.
It's ridiculous how much people get fixated on growing bigger and bigger. It leads to frustration among those who are years behind in the race (tell a newbie that it takes years for most people to reach myth and that you continue to grow after that and bye bye goes another player), people being so big that they can tackle anything and don't need to team any more and people just grinding on scripts.
If that's the kind of end game content Genesis has to offer then could someone tell me what's the point of even starting?
Changing mortal levels to the current system from the old one was the biggest mistake in Genesis history in my opinion. Back then most people were champions because it was fairly easy to reach this level and still, everyone was happy. We had a ton of players, guild wars going on practically non stop, alliances being formed and broken, you know, fun.
And what do we have now? Few players of which most are spending their time either EQ hunting (which isn't fun any more as it's no longer a challenge to get most of the stuff because people are so big) or grinding their assess off. How exciting...

Re: Bring the stat cap
Sorry, Rhaegar ...
The genie is out of the bottle on this one, and to fix it as you suggest would be to throw the baby out with the bath water, so to speak. I predict following your advice would cost us most of our myths, and many of the future players once they hit the cap.
There is something compelling about the ability to grow ad nauseum, and the "soft cap" we have in place makes it sufficiently difficult to grow to sizes beyond reason.

Re: Bring the stat cap
good point, I know I would stop play when I stop growing.. Pretty basic.
title cap, cap caps, and other caps sure, but stat cap.. nay.

Re: Bring the stat cap
I believe if this was done too, the most powerful guild in the game would become the Calians.
Re: Bring the stat cap
Even in the past they were easy prey, unless you met a team of four of them or so, then it was quick deathJohnny wrote:I believe if this was done too, the most powerful guild in the game would become the Calians.

And how about allowing people to grow and all but re-calculating the stats so they're not so huge? Would that be possible? Big people would still be bigger than the rest but they wouldn't be able to grind as easily.
Just trying to look for a way to scale players according to the challenge Genesis has to offer. As it is, people have simply outgrown the challenge. Perhaps the easiest way to do it would be scaling NPCs with top gear up, so even myths would have trouble soloing them. The problem with such solution is that smaller players wouldn't have dis for such monsters (perhaps being in team could increase your discipline? You know, feeling safe and brazen when in the company).

Re: Bring the stat cap
I hear you, and perhaps slowing down the growth rate a bit would help but perhaps should be put on the thought-back burner. When the magic guild recodes come out there will be flocks to magic guilds and the imbuements will also give players something to do, collecting and crafting.
Re: Bring the stat cap
While you and myself agree and disagree on matters pretty evenly. To me Gorboth this is your shining moment as Keeper. I appreciate the fact that you know the work people have put behind their large characters. I also appreciate the fact that you REALiZE things were better under the old mortal title system, but like you said, the cat's out of the bag. You cannot put it back in, and given the fact Genesis is made up of many myths (take your flames to another topic about how to many myths, no in between.) Those people that have stucck with the game for 15+ years that are finally myth after seeing people like myself grow to myth before them, and many others faster than myself. They will quit the game if you impose a stat cap. Ah Gorboth best post I've seen from you in a while on a firm-cut decision. Now bring on the imbuements.gorboth wrote:Sorry, Rhaegar ...

The imbuements (MIGHT I ADD. A BLEND OF THE OLD AND THE NEW COMBINED TO MAKE AN AWESOME IDEA)
Like I said in another thread. Let's change things but not throw tradition out the window please. I am relatively young, just being 21 and all. I haven't played the game for that long and genesis was the first game I ever actively played.I love learning the tradition and the history of the game, whether it be gossip or absolute fact. I find it intriguing that our history still carry's on due to all the people who have never given up on it.
No offense Rhaegar but every post I read of yours, it just sounds like a WoW changeover. I'm sure its not what you have in mind but the ideas are to similar... perhaps you should code for Blizzard. You might make money for it! but it really just feels like most of the changes leean toward mmorpg's, which genesis is not. Let's start the roleplay up intense again guys.
Let's roleplay 24/7 in game
If you want to script, perhaps your a monk who has taken a vow of silence.
If your a warrior perhaps you've taken a vow of solitude.
Let's roleplay what genesis is a fucking RPG (Role-playing game.)
No MMORPG's about it, original genesis, with even better stuff and new people and let's draw them in on the fact they can submerse themselves in a character. Learn about them through msn or whatever you want, talk stats and battle weapons through msn, but try purely rp'ing throughout everything. What fun it sounds.

Re: Bring the stat cap
You misunderstood me Ilrahil. It is not my intention to hinder big players, deny them credit or benefit of growing large.
My concern is that Genesis doesn't seem to be suited to accomodate characters who have grown to the sizes we see nowadays (most of gen was coded in the 90's, early 00's, that's a decade+ right there). I really don't care if someone is so much bigger than me that he can one shot kill me, good for him. What I care about is ruined immersion when someone can blast through toughest NPC's in a matter of moments. What was once a challenging feat is now mundane, casual thing. It's a natural thing that when people grow things get easier, but it saddens me that the magic is gone.
The worst thing it's extremely hard to fix it, perhaps if critical hits would be brought back (although in a bit different form, if certain NPCs had attacks that dealt damage based on the % of target's hitpoints rather than fixed number, making it fair and challenging for everyone) or something like that it would liven things up.
Edit: Oh, and on the RP side. I tried to bring some friends who are real suckers for RPGs, they got really excited in the beginning, when I told them that gen is text based, with roleplay and stuff. However, when they asked about more details, like what setting does gen have and I told them it has several, they've lost all interest.
Most things in gen are both a blessing and a curse. In the example above the strength of many settings, allowing you for more choices is negated by the loss of immersion within certain setting. The same goes for other things, like growing extra large defeats the purpose of setting out on a fascinating adventure filled with danger you must overcome.

Re: Bring the stat cap
I couldn't help but think of the famous Henry Ford quote, when I read this thread:
"If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses."
Here we have a forum of people who have invested alot of effort into learning how to ride, get a nice saddle and riding gear, and when the worlds transportation needs changed, they are asked how to adapt to the future.
The "More of the same!" answer is certainly understandable and somewhat predictable.

Re: Bring the stat cap
capping would uber suck... This is a fantasy game, a place for YOU to live out your wildest fantasies, go slay trolls, goblins, humans, elves, anything, Its your choise, If you want to make A huge huge huge monster do so.. and you should be able to do so.. Capping is restricting people in a way. Its not the way forward. Say if all the myths was capped at Immortal. then you couldnt get anymore xp what so ever.. and You would simply just cast away your character. There is ALOT of pride with in the game, beeing the biggest, badest, most violent, best killer, it all lies with in us. we want to be proud and special, and genesis can let you be just that, because there is noone stopping your growth.. Sure if you dont quest you will stay a piss ant size, but otherwise you are free to grow..
Look at Aragorn, Think hes capped in anyway..? he can slay a batalion of orcs, get smacked and still go troll slaying in Moria.. and beat 5 Nazguls.. with a torch !... And to get back on track.. thats what people in their minds want.. their own personal warrior, their hero/villan. Able to play and grow to the size YOU choose..
Problem with the sizes was the change of titles, Now its to late to change back or adjust so something fitting.. (almost) but back when all was champs, you didnt have the race to myth. people where just champs. and played that way. Many characters play first really starts at Champ-myth size, because then your able to cut down things for your self and play your characters role to the full. All the other time is just growth..
Sure there are alot of people playing RP in smaller sizes, no doubt, but the game dosnt really start untill your able to manage the world alone..
Ofc this is just my personal oppinion.
Cheers
