Ilrahil: The knight's mercy-thing was changed I think, so that knocking down people of good align would result in a drop of prestige. I could be remembering wrong though. It is however odd that a change in code was needed as the knights who did it should have been kicked out head first...

Dirty sneaky rangers, eh...

When I was in the old Angmar Army I lost a fair share of clubs to rangers. I used to think it was sort of bad form ;) but on the other hand, it seemed they were in a lot more demanding guild and in a "stand up fight" they didn't do so well, so it figured they should have some tricks up their sleeves.
On the other hand, from a "it makes sense" perspective, just popping out of hiding and disarming someone? Especially if they are a trained warrior with their guard up already engaged... Those have to be some really thick and well placed bushes. Hell, that ranger has to be a bush.
I never interpreted sneak as being some kind of magical invisibility.
(It could be argued that a lot of things in Genesis don't make sense, of course.)

So what if a Ranger disarms you if you're AA? You still have your smack, which is even better than smash...

A merc switching between Night bringer & Military Fork = ranger imitator.

Just need a funky guild cloak..
If you kill a ranger you should be able to use their guild cloak the same way.
Have tried and you can't

Good point.
But the arguement could be why can't thieves backstab more than once if they mange to sneak in unseen...??
Both are a surprise attack.. And might make the theives a useable layman by today's standards.
It would encourage bouncing, but as we have seen there is a bit of a double standard. A gladiator bounces and they have their code changed.
Other guilds have been specialists at it for years. Meh.

I would say add a "The [medium sized cloaked figure] attempts to stalk silently towards you." feedback message as they start to prepare the attack.
Based on a sneak check not hide (since its movement and harder to notice someone sneaking), if relative sneak / awareness is good enough you see it and have a second or twos warning where you might choose to flee and spoil it etc. Or choose to attack them and start the fight.

Npcs like Barash Gund might also take that as a good time to attack and spoil their no damage robbing attempts.

well - this opponent was indeed in battle ... with another opponent

so tell me (please do ...) that it's harder to sneak up on someone who is focusing on battling someone else ...

In regards to the sneaking, I had superior guru awareness during the fight and couldn't see anything still.

Errr - if you had sup guru parry and def, would you be impossible to harm? :? you didn't ask what stealth Laurel had at that point neither ... not that I would give that away anyway

Even if you had superior guru which is the max other than when in Dabaay it was still matched evenly. I don't care that I didn't see you sneak in, its the pure fact you can instigate a drop brawl possibly without engaging in combat. And yes the rangers haven't been recoded but seems like a serious flaw I can't believe wasn't pointed out.

it's the s-elves, not the weapon

Actually if I am not misstaken, it was the sword and not the npc.

I do not know when/why it changed though.

I would think that some weapons in the game should not be effected, especially a limited and rare weapon
as the runed falchion.

As for rangers getting punished if caught brawling/leaving npc alive, there's just no way to prove a specific ranger have done it, to my knowledge no ranger was ever punished for it(but I might be wrong).

Not to mention how nice the combo brawl+blind+steal is, more or less you can rob any player or npc blind that way ;)
