could now "Mr. Angry" update us all what he promised to Laurel and what his real revenge so far was? I found it hilarious so couldn't help but try to hijack this thread

the "Saya spirit" lives forever

to stay at least a little on topic: I invite you whiners to create alts and join the treehuggers to experience yourself how OP they are - seriously I invite you all to do it, if you haven't already
there's hordes of abandoned alts in treehuggers cause every sucker and her/his aunt created one and joined just to realize it's harder to play one than any combat-guilds out there and less firepower-funny than any of the caster-guilds

I vote disarm per se as the most OP skill out there - after all you can carry your own kender with you and have it "borrow" the disarmed weapon from an enemy :? :o or ... maybe you all whiners could come up with numbers/dates? like "when was the last time you SAW an enemy drop-brawled and left alive (not "used military fork + steal")? months/years?"
or "when was the last time you or your friend was killed by a Ranger? months/years?" ( ages ...?)
or "when was the last time you actually fought a Ranger? months/years?" (Alorrana - months, Tarax - months, but a skilled Ranger - years, Ilrahil - days, Bale keeps running away *sigh*)

comming up with Blob vs Bolg is a tad ... outdated? ;) eventho I miss Blob a lot

PS.: Laurel has been backstabbed multiple times within seconds in the past - maybe it has been recoded, but I wouldn't know

PPS.: what happened with all the knowledge Caerid, me, Mariuz and some others poured into the BDA when it was at war with Rangers? basic (mercenary, pre-soldier) training covered running around blinded and accurate usage of available swords when fighting Rangers

I was killed by Vinz, 3 months ago, by him sneaking and backstabbing me to death.

As it is, backstab is reset each time you move, so it doesn't count as a special as everything else, but can be used repeatedly without limits.

I did bug report it at the time, since its clearly not the intention that it should be the thieves who have the I-win button.

But if it has been changed since then, I cannot tell.

I disagree.
Increased timer at sup guru brawl would actually do so that you could as an ithilien ranger effectively have them disarmed -> Blinded and rknee effectively at the same time.
And that would be overpowered.

I say keep the drop brawl.
And let instead AAs and DAs think twice about what weapon to use when targeting a Ranger ;)
Hehe wasn't intended like that but most Rangers above pupil dont just use "brawl" they use disarm or one of the others. So if one were to "disarm" then none of the others could be used until disarm was over.

There is (or was maybe, I am not sure) a way to avoid losing your precious weapon even by drop brawl. figured that out during one of tournaments ;P

I talked to Vinz before as well, and he was telling me about how to time things correctly etc, but I tried it out recently, and I could not get it to work at all. This was with Sup Guru Backstab, Knife and Master-something in Sneak, and a good dagger. So all in all, way better than anything available before the new Mercs.

So some of the things people are saying here, seems to be experiences that doesn't match up with how things are now.

But, I will say, that some people might be able to work the abilities better than I could, though I tried to do the exact things Vinz (and others) told me, without much luck. I did only test things against NPCs, maybe it works differently against players, but I seriously doubt it.

Actually the Cabal is awfully weak as it is, even with Mercs to bolster their low skill-levels. Being able to have Sup Guru Sneak/Hide is really not much fun either, as every fun place in the game have been coded to be "sneak-proof", for some reason, and let's not talk about Pick Pocket...

When they get around to recoding layman guilds, I hope they make the Cabal useful again, because it wouldn't take too much really. Just make Backstab be able to be used as long as you're not tanking, and make pick-pocket / pick lock useful (again).

As far as I knew backstab was in most cases a use once ability.
Where the person was to wary of attacks if you tired it again even if you successfully sneak and they are not currently fighting you but they are still hunting you because it was you who left.

I am guessing that is what makes the difference... Perhaps if the 2 parties are once more at peace it can be used again.
So if Creed was moving rooms he might have been sneaking back and waiting for you to leave, therefore cancelling the hunting?
Does seem a bit of an exploit.

I think once per fight even with a poison hit is a bit under powered. Perhaps that + a mini SU knife throwing type deal would be nice.
Where thrown knives could poison hit as well.
But the knives would have a strong chance of breaking even if they hit. So its a special that consumes knives, again making them more useful for one off assassinations than pure grinding. If someone has collected a lot of poisoned weapons they could then be quite deadly. Or if they forge a lot of dirks they could do a bit of decent grinding.

Some thoughts on Cabal:

1. You can have good align there but your skills drop to sup layman (at least that's what I remember)
2. It's one of the best layman guilds in my opinion
3. Why the hell are you judging every single guild in terms of combat aid? Not every guild out there is made with combat as it's primary focus. And if you didn't know, Cabal of Hiddukel is called thieves and not assasssins. Why do you expect them to have something even remotely useful in combat?

I've always regarded backstab as a cool way to start a fight, preferably with fatigue poison. It fulfilled this role very nicely. Nothing less, nothing more.
But I guess that in this "Era of Powerplay", stuff that's cool but doesn't give you huge combat aid isn't trendy any more...

Laurel as to your note about the Saya spirit.

My response? Well since your cloaks give so much anonymity its hard to really tell who is who when I stumble across a ranger. And since you did not think about the repercussions of what your actions could be, plain and simple, my action is to just attack any ranger on sight. Since I am not a member of a ME guild, the restriction you want me to uphold of only fighting in ME I could really give two shits about. So you made an oops, and if you and your guildmates now have to deal with it, then its on your head, not mine.
