I don't know if this has been discussed before, but something I really like from World of Warcrack is the idea of reputation with different factions. The benefits of it, or conversely, the drawbacks of having bad reputation could really add some spice to the Realms.
For example, the Free People of Middle Earth faction. You would gain reputation points when you kill orcs, Haradrim, trolls, etc. When you reach enough points to rise to various levels, you would be rewarded with the chance to buy certain items. These can range from the very minor to the very awesome.
Conversely, if you kill rohirrim, farmers, hobbits, etc. in ME you lose faction points and the NPCs will throw rotten food at you, curse at you, etc. Become hated enough and they will attack you on sight.
Just an example:
Friendly Reputation level: People in Minas Tirith, Lebennin, etc. will greet you when you enter the room (similar to the Swordsmaster effect in Kalaman.)
Honored: Reduced prices on vendor items and free item repairs. Able to stay in the Inns for free, etc.
Beloved: Given a tunic of a white tree to wear to show support for their cause. Also the title "Champion of the Free Peoples" in description (or intro title?)
Is this something people would like to see in the game? With the different factions, the opportunities for RP are pretty endless and I think it'd be a nice touch. What do you think?

Re: Faction Reputation
We currently have the alignment system and that is enough.
If Genesis would turn into a faction grinding game I'm out again. Simple as that.
The various people around the realms will simply have to judge me by my alignment
and my guild affiliations.
