I just got back from a weeks vacation and it was absolutely great
to see such a lively debate on this issue.
Many good points were raised, and most of the posts were very well
thought out and written.
Still there are some things I find extremely puzzling.
One of those being the very serious disdain for these so called
"powerplayers". Now I find killing monsters in Genesis to be boring
and have never gotten above Hero level in about 11 years of play,
but I still think there should be room for all 4 main activities
- Questing, Killing Monsters, Roleplaying and PvP'ing.
The disdain for "powerplayers" becomes a bit ironic when I also read
compliments from past players like Kirgwath, who was always very nice
person but not much of a roleplayer at all, when he started out.
Which brings me to my next point - Roleplaying is infectious.
Over the years I've been in most guilds in Genesis and I've seen
super powerplayers in exclusive guilds and excellent roleplayers in
non-exclusive guild, so there still seem to be very little basis for
saying that "excluding people generates rich roleplay".
Hell, I'd even venture to say that the Ogre guild was probably the
guild that had the highest percentage of roleplaying members when it
opened. (It's an easy role to play, but most were consistant atleast)
So the roleplayers should not be so full of disdain for powerplayers,
but instead try to "infect" them with their roleplay, by including
them and be consistent in their roleplay around them.
Most people actually do start to roleplay back, if met with consistant
roleplay from someone.
Ofcourse there will always be disruptive players, but a simple voting
system like several guilds already have, should be able to take care
of that. No need to have players monopolize guilds, and thus roleplaying
roles, to combat that problem.
What seems to me, to be the least "beneficial" type of player for the
game is 'The Lonewolf'. Interaction is what makes people play multiplayer
games. So instead of trying to divide the game up, and get all the
problems that comes with it that, like corruption, nepotism, time-zone
problems, casual players woes, inactive leaders etc etc.
We should facilitate interaction and encourage roleplay, so that we
may in the end expand the player base, with all types of players.
We simply don't do that, by adhering to the old school of thought
that have brought us where we are now.
So, once again, thanks Gorboth for being bold enough to break the
mold of the previous administrations and try to improve the game
and expand the playerbase.
Division vs Inclusion
