I was somewhat against this when it happened to "my" guild
in the past. IE when Louie made the Dragon Armies free
to join. It aslo caused more than a few who had still
considered the guild elite to leave.
But I now think that the benefits outweigh the negatives
as it takes a lot of pressure of the recruitment system
People not having to wait for inactive people to get back
to them loosing interest etc.
Its crap to spend time "inducting" likely seconds into a
guild only for them to go inactive after trying it out.
Or leave to try the next one.
But if we can't really do much but accept shit happens.
SO I think free to join is the way ahead.
BUT only frre to join at an apprentice limited level.
And still have to prove their worth to get beyond that.
With a feedback loop where if people are trying hard
and just can't get beyond it they can appeal to the
wizards.
Or a mortal council.
Or something. I know there is limited manpower.
Just don't want to see a guild die out where there
are those that want to join but can't because of lack
of active players.
