The Crimson Covenant
In the grand chronicle of the ages beneath the eternal moon, we, the
Vanguard of the Vampire Nation, find our tale inscribed in the annals
of this Age of Blood. We dwell in the tranquil dominion of the Night, a
realm of shadowed forests, fertile bloodfields, and a climate most
agreeable to our kind. Our governance is founded upon ancient covenants
and blood-bound oaths, designed to uphold the liberties of our clans
and the sanctity of our nocturnal rites.
We, upon our awakening, inherited these blessings not through toil,
but as a legacy bestowed by a venerable lineage of progenitorsvaliant,
resolute, and now lamented in their eternal rest. It was their sacred
dutyfulfilled with honorto claim this land and, through their
endeavors, to bequeath it to us. Upon the hills and within the valleys of
the Night, they erected a bastion of freedom and individual rights. Our
charge is to preserve this inheritance: to keep our lands untainted by the
steps of invaders and our institutions uncorrupted by the passage of time
or the grasp of usurpers. This duty we owe to our ancestors, to ourselves,
to our childer, and to all beings who cherish the essence of our kind.
How shall we fulfill this duty? From whence shall danger approach?
Shall we anticipate an assault from the distant realms of Ansalon or the
Western Kingdoms, their legions crossing the seas to extinguish our
dominion in a single blow? Never! Even should the combined forces of
the Dayborn, with all their treasures and a Sunlord to command them,
attempt such a feat, they could not, by force, sip from the Crimson River
or leave a mark upon the Obsidian Peaks in a millennium.
Where, then, is the threat to be expected? I declare, if peril is to reach
us, it must arise from within. It cannot come from beyond our borders. If
our destruction is to be, we shall be its authors and its executioners. As
a Nation of free Vampires, we must endure through all time, or perish
by our own hand.
