Casters and the Black Dragon of Terel

Post by Zestana » 16 Sep 2025 14:35

So... I understand burst damage is a relatively "new" concept in Genesis these days.

I never thought that Rulacruz... the Black Dragon in Terel would be able to regularly be killed by Solo adventurer's.

Today in Terel....

You are stronger than the impressive fire-eyed male elf.
You are more agile than the impressive fire-eyed male elf.
You are healthier than the impressive fire-eyed male elf.
The impressive fire-eyed male elf is about as smart as you.
You are a bit wiser than the impressive fire-eyed male elf.
You are about as brave as the impressive fire-eyed male elf.

The impressive fire-eyed male elf is aching.
The black dragon is at death's door.
Now the elf in question is a Valar so he has access to healing with enhancers... however, based off the comparison... he is a relatively new myth... he does not fall into the Supermyth class... and being a Valar... his psionic blast is indicative he is not even a Full WoHS but merely a Sorcerer.

Casters such as the above referenced elf are killing a foe single handedly that takes a group of 4-5 large mythic combat fighters to take down. Given that the mana pool for Casters above a certain level seems to be rather endless, I question the validity of the current paradigm of burst damage balance in the game relative to what combat fighters are able to put out. Dragons no matter what Realm they appear in are beings highly sensitive to magic and resistant to it... yet these old beasts are being culled by a single magic user.. Another interesting note is that the Red Dragon counterpart in Terel even with Casters still takes 4 myths to take out and about 15 minutes of your time.

Perhaps something for the Immortals consideration. At least balance the dragon into a better power stance if the caster's burst is going to stay the same....

On the same note though... the mana pool running out used to be a hinderance that made no one want to be a caster... now it is veritably unlimited particularly with imbues for most casters to be able to grind without pause... Genesis has always seemed to operate under a pendulum modality... perhaps the pendulum has swung to far in the opposite direction of the days of old and a happy medium might be settled upon.

Cheers

Hi,

It isn't burst damage for this one. It is retribution ward (and the ability to self-heal). Same effect on other very large heavy hitting NPCs: Balrog, Nazgul, etc.

Appreciate that correction. Thank you.

Mages as well as Elemental Clerics seem to have no issue doing it alone either without said Retribution Ward… just interesting times to see something that should not be solo’d easily killed so often in such a manner. The checks and balances seem to have been a little lost along the way.
